Hard protection without breaking a sweat.

We've all heard it before, "you gotta pay to play." This phrase certainly holds true for any trail rider who's experienced a horrific crash. After a few nasty wipe outs, you're now a smarter rider who's meticulous in line choice and cautious in stepping to new terrain features. Even with this cautionary approach, it's best to be wearing the Trail Skins 2 Knee Guard when you're rallying across rocky trails and hucking in the bike park.

This hard cap-inspired knee pad features a ventilated exoskeleton over the knee area, so you can shred flow trails and bike parks without worrying about the consequences inflicted to your poor knees, should you suffer a crash. The hard cap exoskeleton is anatomically curved for a natural feeling pad that won't hold you back when you're pedaling up short climbs and picking your line across technical trails. This exoskeleton over the knee is complemented with energy-absorbing foam pads along the sides, which do an admirable job of soaking up impact, especially if you inadvertently smash into the frame.

    • Exoskeleton-like protection over the knee
    • Hard cap knee protector disperses heavy blows
    • Ventilated knee cap prevents overheating on the trail
    • Side memory foam pads soak up impacts with your frame
    • Dual hook-and-loop straps keep the knee pads in place

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Absolute trash, one pad has ripped above the knee protection and the other is beginning to also after only 4 riding days and no crashes. Don’t waste your $ on these they are complete trash.

    Good hot weather knee pad

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 220lbs

These knee pads are very well ventilated. You can feel the airflow on the front of your knee as soon as you start moving on the bike. Protection wise, they do the job for moderated trail riding. I had one "no speed" topple over on a tight switchback, and my right knee took the impact without a problem.

    Great fit and comfortable

Female - These fit and sit perfectly throughout any mtb ride - just make sure you get that bottom velcro attachment above your calf muscle and you're good to go for hours! Breathable, and very comfortable!

Best daily trail pad on the market

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've tried tons of different knee protection. These are superior- 1) They are highly breathable, yet still durable. 2)Adjustable straps at top AND bottom means they stay put. 3) Ergonomic molded outer knee pad stays in place on your knee. 4) Side knee protection in a pad this light is very rare. I wear these for everything except hard core downhill where you need heavy armor.

    So far, so good!

Dainese Trail Skins 2 Knee Pads
I am leaving this review to help others with sizing, as there is not much out there that I could find. With my leg relaxed, sitting with bent knees my measurements are taken 4” from the distal edge of my bent knee cap up the thigh, and below the knee at the thickest part of my calf. The calf strap actually rides just above the thickest part of my calf. Left leg measures: thigh 16.5”, calf 14 7/8”, Right leg measures 15 5/8” thigh, 14 ¼” calf.
I tried the medium and large and went with large, although the medium fit fine on my slightly smaller right leg.
They have a lot of adjustment in the straps. I have at least another inch on each pad that I could cinch down tighter if I needed to. I could have gone with the mediums, but that allowed some of the Velcro calf strap to rub on my larger left calf which was scratchy and help me decide to get the large.
They stay put during my typical 3 hr rides, breathe very well and I basically forget I am wearing them. I did wash out on a steep traverse and slide on my right knee pad along some rock… didn’t feel a thing. A few of the honeycomb vents did pack with dirt but when I bent my knee, aimed the clogged holes downward and then squeezed the honeycombed pad area all of the dirt basically fell out leaving clean holes, which took less than 30 seconds.
FYI, the red logo faces out when determining left or right.
As always Backcountry was a pleasure to do business with!

    Great comfort and so breathable

Original review 4/2018, i gave it 4 stars:
I had great experience with Dainese products and I bought these to replace my Six Six One Rage Hard Knee Guard. They were good but had to adjust a couple of times during 2 hour rides and were hot in the summer; however protection wise they were solid. I have used the trail skins twice on two 10 miles rides. the first one had some substantial climbing and the second one was mostly flat with a few punchy climbs. Total number of adjustments = ZERO! So comfortable you forget you have them on. The only thing i notice on the first ride was that of the labels flapping around inside, i cutted them and the second ride was absolutely perfect. i have soccer quads and was at the max sizing of the mediums. I took a chance on the size and it was worth it. At first i thought they are to small but once you stretch them the Velcro and silicon keeps them in place. Make sure the strap is properly place other wise it will be itchy. The only reason i took off a star is because after the second ride a couple of the stitches on one of the straps came loose. I have not taken a spill on them, but i did slam hard my knee on concrete to see how they did, and you feel the contact but there is no pain transferring from the knee. Great comfort and so breathable, may be not the best for temps bellow 40 F or so. Will update on durability.

    UPDATE 10/8/2018

I fixed the stitches that came off and have not have a problem since with them. I have managed to tested them a few times and they offer great protection even on enduro types trails, the side protection on this helps a lot. They still stay in place and are so breathable, they have stretched a little bit which made glad i went with the medium size. Only on heavy duty bike park days i dont wear them, besides that they are money! up dated too 5 stars.
