Best Knee Guards for Trail Riding

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I’ve tried several other highly rated knee guards and didn’t like any of them. Then I tried the Trail Skins 2 and instantly fell in love with them.

    Pros:

Crash protection: I’ve crashed several times and I’ve come away completely unscathed. Also, the side pads do a good job of protecting against frame impacts.

Comfort: The combination of adjustability, flexibility and breathability make these guards very comfortable to wear and ride with.

The Velcro straps are quick, reliable and durable. Plus, they allow you to easily slip on and off the guards.

    Cons:

The inside of the Velcro straps can be a little irritating on your skin. But there are ways this can be easily remedied.

Soft dirt or mud will get trapped in the armor if you land in it. But just tapping on the armor will get most of it out and when you get home use a wet rag to get the rest.

    Great XC Pads

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Awesome pads. Very comfortable. I have relatively skinny legs and Large fits good. Breathable and protective. The best XC pads I've come across. Had a number of normal hits and scrapes and no issues with them protecting and staying put. Nice and lightweight too. just right.

    Light and stable around knee

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Fit is perfect, measured and bought a Large.
My thigh is 51cm @ 10cm above knee cap
calves are right around 40cm at point where the knee pads go down to. Both Large and XL fit me fine, I just use a lot less velcro strap on the XL. Overall liked having the back a bit more opened up for ventilation so settled for Large.
Sizing runs very accurately to their stated sizing chart.

    Italian sizing and skimpy velcro

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 205lbs

Ordered an XL and these are right on the cusp of not being wearable for me. I'm a bigger guy but I don't fancy myself as a particularly thick legged individual. To make matters worse, the "hook" part of the velcro straps face inward, meaning that the abrasive texture will rest right against the skin if the sides of the fabric don't overlap (I hope that makes sense). This is due to two slits on either end of the pads, which were probably intended to keep the fabric from bunching if the straps were tightened considerably (smart but useless when the sizing is so small). Additionally, the velcro straps are very slim and make me wonder how they'll perform in the long term.
While these pads are very well constructed and comfortable, the design flaws and sizing make me hesitant to recommend them.
