From pleasant strolls to full-on scrambles.

The Asolo Men's Agent GV Hiking Shoe has a narrower heel and a wider toe box that more closely mirror the natural shape of your foot, which should drastically enhance your comfort and mobility on short hikes in the summertime. A Gore-Tex Extended Comfort lining gives this shoe guaranteed waterproof protection that's also breathable for hotter temperatures. The suede upper is durable and sheds water for extra protection. An EVA midsole with PU inserts adds stability that doesn't compromise cushy comfort, and the Asolo/Vibram Natural Shape sole ensures proper traction over technical terrain.

My go-to hiking and rainy day street sho

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I have bought my fair share of ankle high hiking shoes without being comfortable or satisfied. The Asolo Agent is different. I love this shoe for hiking and for going to work, for street fastness and for going on a long trip abroad. If I would be able to take only one pair of shoe with me on a trip abroad I would take the Asolo Agent. It is nice enough to go into a good restaurant, classy enough to go to a museum, comfortable enough to wear during long hours in an airport and just about as close to having better feet than anything I have worn for a very long time. I am considering buying another pair.

    Odd feel and poor QC

These were the shoes I wanted for every day use (I work on my feet). I've been very happy with other Asolo shoes I've owned in the past and after reading reviews, I went for these. The comfort and quality are just not there. One shoes' toe box is noticeably smaller than the other, pinching my pinkie toe while descending stairs or making sharp turns. I would consider that a warranty issue, but the lack of comfort will just make me move on to another protect.

    Good design poor quality control

The fit of the shoes is great and I like the looks. There is a small bump in the footbed on the right shoe that isn't on the left and it drives me nuts. If the footbed on the right was better I would be giving this a much higher rating

    awesome shoes!

I went to local REI store to try these on (glad I did for correct size, which was true). Bought these a week before my weekend backpacking trip and they needed almost no break-in time and worked great! I did replace the insole for more cushion, but they were very comfortable and they held up fantastic for all the abuse I put them through on the trail and climbing rocks. The vibram soles were great and traction excellent uphill & down. These are also great to wear daily.. as I do.

    awesome shoes!

    bridge the shoe/boot gap

For what it's worth, and to balance the other review regarding poor build quality, I've have these shoes for some time and I've had no issues with quality control. I've put some decent miles on them and I end up reaching for these anytime I don't want to lace up a full boot but want something a little more substantial on my feet.

These started out a bit stiff (you can feel that they do indeed have a shank in there), but broke in nicely after a short time of wearing. That may seem a bit odd as most of us probably are not used to a shoe that needs any break in. The footing is great in these, over all kinds of mixed terrain, whether that be city pavement, trails, or off-trail scrambling. No issues with wet traction. These shoes compare well to one of my favorite all time pair of shoes, the Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2. Here's the differences as I see them: the leather of the Asolo feels more "precise" (less lumpy/ cushiony inside); the midsole of the Asolo is stiffer; the vibram sole of the Asolo is more durable; the traditional laces of the Asolo allow better customized fit than the Salomon quick lacing system.

Bottom line, this shoe gives boot-like confidence and support, in a bit lower profile than a 3/4 or full high top. If I were deciding between the Agent and the Salomon, I would choose the Agent for more technical duties where the mid-sole support and customized lacing shine. I would choose the Salomon for less technical work and more "around-town" duties in crappy weather.

Junk! Falling apart after only a month

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Developing large tips and holes with only a month of normal daily use(walking to get coffee type of thing)

Asolo USA won't stand behind them and gave me a run around. No care for the customer

    Unanswered Question

How do these translate to women's sizes? Do they use the same last or is it wider? Currently, I wear a women's 41-1/3 (USA 9) in Asolos. I really prefer the lacing that goes all the way down to the toe that the men's Agent has, but is not found in the women's styles other than the Ember, which is ugly and suitable only for the trail, and therefore not translatable to town, thus defeating my minimalist packing scheme. Yes, I've looked at some of the other women's versions, but I need the Goretex. Thanks!
