Why We Like The Weston Backwoods Carbon Splitboard

We appreciate that the Backwoods Carbon Splitboard takes the widely loved standard Backwoods and supercharges it with carbon for easier uphill performance and more durability. Featuring Weston's most technically advanced Strike wood core, this split combines paulownia wood with aluminum stringers to increase toughness while maintaining a damp, lively feel. The Carbon Weave topsheet replaces fiberglass to save weight and add response, while bamboo inserts are strategically placed to increase strength and snap. We're happy to say the Backwoods Carbon retains all the same flex, camber profile, and shape but in a lightweight package for venturing off further and higher into the backcountry.

This is my go to board and splitboard for bigger powder days. its obvious with its shape while it would excel in those conditions. What surprised me the most though was how well the board performed in firm, icy, and groomed conditions. The sidecut is perfect and itll be great this spring. From Cat Skiing on our deep days to guiding and teaching this spring this board rips and the fun really surprised me. For a carbon it remains light but not too stiff.

Super lightweight & Performance

This split is ultra light and nimble, I ride the solid a lot and I always have called that a quiver killer but this split is the same but can get you more miles and it is slightly stiffer, which gives you slightly more response but still giving you that same floaty surfy feel in any terrain you might be in from chutes to low angle tree runs in powder. I can say it is pretty durable too, I have taken it into technical terrain and into low angle deep pow and it has been amazing and a super fun split to ride.

Who says you cant charge hard on carbon definitely never road the Carbon Backwoods. It floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee! I was shocked and almost worried by how light it was the first time I held it. A few days later I was standing at the top of an icy couloir with my axe in hand. The conditions were absolutely awful but the Carbon backwoods didn't care. It made quick work out the situation and I was absolutely blown away by the performance. usually there's some kind of sacrifice getting boards that light. The Carbon backwoods proved thats no longer true! You'll be thankful for its weight savings on those long days and deep trail breaking while providing confidence inspiring performance and a damp ride in any terrain you can throw it at!

Has been my go to splitboard for about four seasons now. I have ridden this thing in all conditions and I really mean that. From early November backcountry days at wolf creek pass, mid winter blower pow days in the trees and meadows, to spring mountaineering missions down the east glacier route of the middle Teton and it has handled it all with ease. Hands down taking this board if the mission calls for 15+miles and over 7k of vertical gain. Though it is thinner than the og backwoods it is still very durable. Def a lil softer than the non carbon but floats like a boat with its directional tapered shape. Now that they made a ridgeline carbon, I’ll have my carbon powder day split and my big mtn lines splitboard. Love all the options Weston has to offer.

Love my Backwoods.

The Weston Backwoods is the best touring board for me. I like a traditional cambered board that will hold up any where I take it. From CO steep, trees or just wide open pow fields this board does it all. Slay pow.
