    The confidence to get sandy.

Going big occasionally means crashing big, so instead of tucking a lucky rabbit’s foot into your pocket before dropping in, don the Troy Lee Designs D3 Carbon MIPS Helmet. It’s at the top of the heap when it comes to fit, comfort, and resisting impact, with a super-adjustable incremental sizing system that makes it possible to dial in fit that’s far more comfortable than you can get with a traditional dial adjustment. In addition to the lightweight carbon-composite shell, the MIPS system takes the sting out of rotational impacts for those inevitable times that see you bounce down a tranny onto your noggin.

The shape of the D3 isn’t radically different than the D2, but it does pack a little bit more foam into key areas and tweaks the cheek and jaw pads to provide a snugger, more comfortable fit. Dual-density shock pads around the shell absorb smaller impacts, but the sweetest feature might be the removable washable liner, made with washable Coolmax and Dri-Max materials that keep your dome cool, dry, and smelling like a daisy. 20 vents take the cooling up a notch or four, and the adjustable visor can be swapped out with the included second option for a different look.

    • Light, strong carbon fiber shell is race-ready

    • 20 vents keep your dome cool on warm days

    The Benchmark

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the ultimate helmet. The fit is superb and it’s very light—doesn’t strain my head after wearing it for an extended period. The level of craftsmanship in the carbon and design is second to none.

    Number 1

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have been on the search for finding a new DH helmet for this summer. And the Troy Lee is definitely the best I found. Super light, protective and looks killer. Stocked to use it once the bike parks open.

    The Best

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The D3 was almost perfect before, and is now even safer with MIPS technology. This fullface is the perfect blend of style, weight, and fit. Compared to other helmets on the market, the D3 is less bulky and seems to fit just about any moto goggle out there. I would highly recommend this helmet to anyone looking for a high end fullface.

    Safe Just Got Safer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

The D3's proven track record just got even safer with the addition of the Multi-directional Impact Protection System or MIPS for short. While I haven't put the system to the test, it's said to reduce the chances of concussions under rotational impacts. It's good piece of mind to know that the D3 now includes this technology. Having met Troy Lee and his strive for creating the safest helmets for not only his employees, racers, but even his family, I feel at ease that wearing this lid will provide some of the best protection I can buy when the going gets rough.

Aside from the safety aspect of the helmet, the D3 has distinctly unique styling and a smaller volume than other full face helmets. Additionally, the inside shape of the brow on the D3 has been reconfigured a bit to fit better. With this new shape, I was able to drop from a size XL D3 to a Large.
