Why We Like The Scout Grill

Don't let the compact size of the Traegar Scout Grill fool you, this thing can grill with the best of them. We like setting it on the tailgate of our truck or on a table outside of your RV and let the 4lb capacity hopper keep the temperature up for hours on end to slowly cook your meat of choice to perfection. The 184 square inch cooking space can easily handle a rack of ribs, ten hot dogs, or around 6 burgers to keep everyone happy. After enjoying the feast, the porcelain-coated grill makes for an easy clean-up so you can enjoy more free time with your friends and family.

Keep the Scout CLEAN

People complain about the temperature fluctuations and getting too hot. Simple trick, keep the unit clean. You are probably experiencing back burns. Great little unit.

Wild Temperature Swings

I have had the Traeger scout for about a year and I have used it about a dozen times. It is unable to regulate the temperature and has wild 150 degree temperature swings. Although I can cook on the grill, I have hated it from the very first time I tried using it. Don’t waste your money on the scout.

Don't buy

I have had this grill for a little over a month. I clean it after every use and follow the instructions to start it up. After I set the temperature to my desire setting the temperature quickly rises well above the temperature I have it set to. If I set the temperature to 225 degrees it will rise to over 400 degrees and stay there. I tested it for over an hour and the temperature never dropped below 400 even though I set it to 225 degrees.

Junk.

Can’t hold temp. Can’t cook anything right on it. Just got a Recteq smoker. Recteq is way better than traeger.

Good food, when it decides to work

I got this a year or two ago, I'm glad it was free, but free is almost too expensive for this. When it works, it's great, but I have to run the P-Setting at the slowest mode possible, and run it at nearly the lowest temp possible. Half the time I come out, it's got a heat error and has shut off Reading other reviews, it seems temperature swings are common. Most recently I cooked bacon and to set the temp to 200 because it was still swinging up to near 530 on the grill's temp sensor (which I think is faulty/poorly designed, no way was it really that hot), and I was worried it would hit 550 and shut off When it works, the food is great, but, oof. It's caused me to be a better cook by learning to take food off the grill and find another way to cook food fast. Huge bummer. Can't imagine taking this thing camping, I wouldn't expect it to work. It retains 2 stars because the food it does manage to cook all the way without turning off is great.

I have been using my scout for over a year I'm not much of a cook you don’t have to be the scout cooks it perfectly every single time. Maintain this smoker like you do your kitchen clean it after each use

523 Fahrenheit

I got this baby up to 523 degrees Fahrenheit. Dropped it down to 425, and threw on a 2 1/2” thick ribeye. I’m a Traeger veteran, so I know how these machines work best. Once I was pleased with the progress in the rib-eye, I threw on the kids and wife’s New York’s. Completed them both at the same time. It was a wonderful dinner. Thanks Traeger.

Like the comments say… just missed the mark.

Great idea, but the thing just isn’t what my other Traeger delivers. Put it on smoke and quickly gets up to 360. Set the P settings and followed initial setup instructions exactly.
