Arm yourself against blasts of arctic air and raging blizzards this winter with the quintessential cold-weather protection of The North Face McMurdo Hooded Down Parka. Packing warmth when the city hits single-digit temps, this classic parka boasts 550-fill down insulation for high-loft warmth in brutal conditions. The down insulation also brings a luxuriously padded feel to your everyday commute and around-town errands.
When snowstorms barrel down on your city, the DryVent 2-layer membrane seals out wind-driven snow squalls from soaking through and compromising your warmth. Classic parka styling sits a bit longer to keep you warm and dry, especially in downright nasty winter conditions. The zip-off hood provides greater versatility for widely variable conditions, and it's packing an emergency gaiter for sealing out nasty weather.

Read the fine print, this is a Relaxed Fit parka. The pictures look like a regular fit. Returning the coat, but I'm out $19.99 (paid up shipping to get it in time for a trip) due to misleading product photos. They were nice enough to refund the return shipping $6.99. This is a good quality item, but only for plus sized, or those that want a very wide fitting parka.

I bought the McMurdo in a rush due to an upcoming trip to a relatively cold climate. Comfortable at 15 degrees with 20-30 mph winds. The problem arose with the hood. The zipper does not go all the way around and drafts were noticeable on my neck. Also, the hood itself is a joke! Had to remove the fur trim as it was in my eyes constantly. The front of the hood only extended to just short of my hairline. Removed, and used a Mad Bomber pilot hat. No way to close hood in tight on sides. Would not want to wear this anywhere near McMurdo. Come on, NF, most reviews are positive, but a lot of customers complain about the hood! Fix it, and you would have a reasonable candidate for extreme climates. Also, would be nice to be able to buy a larger hood. Headed to Alaska in two weeks and taking my new CG parka instead.

This fits like a plus size jacket

My husband needed a warm winter coat, but he isn't a fan of the puffer style jackets so this one seemed promising. I took his measurements and ordered a medium based on the size chart. When it arrived, I was shocked to see how huge and boxy it was, especially for The North Face which is known for "running small". We returned it and ordered a small and it was equally massive. He looked like a little boy wearing his daddy's coat. It was ginormous and very unflattering for his tall/fit frame. I noticed on the tag, it says "relaxed fit". Bingo! There's the problem. Relaxed fit is synonymous with men's plus size. This is a MEN'S PLUS SIZE JACKET, but for some reason, they can't just mark it as such. I think a lot of people would find that information incredibly helpful. This detail isn't in the description. I'm frustrated because now I have $900 held up in returns when I used the size chart. It's very inconvenient because he still needs a winter coat and I'm out $900 on two illfitting coats until the returns process. If you're built anything like the guys in these photos, don't buy this coat. It will not look the same as the photos. I honestly believe they're wearing the boys version of this coat for the photos. My husband is 5'10", 160, slim/fit build, a lot like the guys in the product photos. If you typically gravitate toward clothing marked as "husky" or "relaxed fit" or consider yourself to be a bigger guy, this coat is made for you, but you'll probably want to size down. It's a nice quality coat and has a plush memory foam-like feel to it. I wanted it to work, but the search continues as a nervously await my refunds.
