Maze Helmet

The Smith Maze Helmet doesn't have a bunch of thingamajigs, jibjabs, and doodads, but it is a light, clean, and bombproof brain bucket that's designed to protect your head, so you can think about the next big booter, deep line, or double-kink that you're lining up. At just 12oz, it's the lightest fully certified snow helmet on the market, but it still comes with key features like a self-adjusting Lifestyle Fit System, Airflow Climate Control Vents, and removable, audio-compatible Snapfit SL2 earpads. Smith's AirEvac 2 goggle-compatible ventilation system prevents your goggles from fogging, and the PC plastic shell and EPS foam liner protect your medulla oblongata from getting rattled after a big hit.

Nice shape to fit

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The helmet fits good on my head which is Asian friendly I think, not too heavy but good enough to provide protection when skiing. Love it!

A Great Helmet

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The Maze helmet is a great helmet for the price! It has a great comfortable fit and gets the job done. If riding more experienced terrain, I would recommend the MIPS technology, but for beginning skiers this helmet will offer all you need!

Great First Helmet!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This helmet is great and very comfortable. If your looking for your first helmet and not trying to break the bank go for the Maze! The Maze offers a few features. I ended up returning because the Maze offered more heat then I liked. But, don't let this hold you back. I would recommend to a friend that was just getting into snow sports!

The maze is a pretty basic helmet but has everything you need. Good protection, lightweight and you can configure to your liking.

Light helmets are the best helmets. This one feels good as well.

Awesome!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This helmet is super light and breathable, my head never gets hot! It's perfect. My ears don't get cold either, and I love it. I've taken some pretty hard spills with this thing, and it is seriously wonderful. I'm glad I have it! It is seriously the most lightweight helmet I have had, I never remember that I even have one on.

Awesome, Light Weight Helmet

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I admit I haven't always worn my helmet going snowboarding, and one day it just hit me how dumb that was! I did try a couple other helmets from other brands and didn't like how heavy/restrictive they felt. I had a Smith Allure that was too big for me, but I loved how light it was, so I went with this one. So happy to report that this one does not feel that way at all! Super lightweight - so much so that, I kid you not, I forgot that I was wearing a helmet at all! Flattering - I don't feel like a huge bobblehead in this one. Just wish there was maybe one more vent, as I get pretty hot whenever I have to hike out of a situation. Overall though, I'm super happy with this helmet!

Forever will be my go-to helmet

Familiarity:

Light, durable, and clean looks. I love this helmet for every winter ski day. This helmet does not vent as well as other options in the Smith lineup, but it has never been an issue for me.

Protect Your Noggin!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This helmet is awesome! Personally, I think it's one of the better looking helmets out there if you're in to freeriding/freestyle skiing/snowboarding. It's also incredibly lightweight, and has plenty of ventilation, so I barely notice I have it on. At $110 it's also one of the cheaper options out there, so getting this helmet is a "no brainer" (hehe, see what I did there?). Seriously though, I've been using the smith Maze for 4 years now and have no complaints, it's a great helmet for the price and if you're willing to spend $30 more, I'd recommend getting the added protection from the MIPS version.

Best helmet out there!

light as a feather

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This is a great fitting and lightweight helmet for skiing and riding. It has limited venting but plenty for warmer days. The ear pads snap off easily as well.

No complaints! This helmet is light - I barely even notice it when I’m wearing it. Keeps me warm when it’s cold, and on warmer days it has enough ventilation to keep me from overheating.

My Favorite Helmet Ever.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

You CANNOT go wrong with this helmet. It's super light, and the ear pieces are removable. Don't be worried about the lightness of the helmet, though. It is still SURE to protect you in case of a hard head hit. Trust me, I know...

it's Amazing

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Easily the best fitting helmet I have ever worn. Fits well with all the goggles I have tried with it. Very light and low profile for a helmet, no longer feels like I have an alien head when I wear it. I bought this a few years ago before they had a MIPS version, can't wait to upgrade!

Hello, is this helmet compatible with oakley airbrake goggles? the goggles are kinda bulky and it doesn't look like it will fit this helmet

The short answer is that yes the Maze Helmet is compatible with the Oakley Airbrakes. Smith Helmets integrate well with Oakley goggles in general from my experience and other customers’ feedback. That being said there is a small chance the set-up will not be comfortable for some people, especially if you have a higher bridge on your nose, since the Maze could create pressure on your nose when they push the goggles down. Will this helmet work with my outdoor tech speakers?

I'm not 100% positive since I don't know what outdoor tech speakers you have, but I would bet that they would work.

are the ear pads removable?

Yes!

Does MIPS take up any room in helmets? I have a very large head and normally have to grind my helmet for a custom fit just to get it on. Either way, I tried a Maze XL helmet on that didn't have MIPS. If I order a Maze with MIPS will it fit exactly the same as one without? Thanks

Hey Tyler, The MIPS technology does not change the fit of the helmets significantly as it is simply an additional safety standard designed to better protect your brain in an impact. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions. Kyle L. - Expert Gearhead

Does anyone know what Smith means when they say Asian Fit? Also is MIPS just more marketing lingo or is there something radically different in the helmet's construction to differentiate it from this version of Maze? TIA Paul

I don't know about Asian fit, but I can answer for MIPS. MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is a new helmet technology that is starting to gain traction in the industry, and basically it helps reduce rotational impact on your brain due to an angled hit to your dome. I can't say exactly how the technology works, but I know that a lot of big companies are starting to include MIPS versions of their helmets. Something tells me it may become an industry standard in a few years, especially as more research into brain injuries comes out. Heres the MIPS website if you want to read more: http://www.mipshelmet.com/#what-is-mips. There's a lot of question about what kinds of helmets really do protect and what not. With my experience, as long as you're wearing some kind of skid lid, you're helping your brain out. Hope this helps

Thanks so much Maxwell. Your answer was very helpful.
