    Forefront 2 MIPS Helmet

Mountain biking protective gear is constantly being re-engineered to be lighter, stronger, and sleeker, seeing demanding trail and all-mountain riders want more comfortable helmets without sacrificing good looks. Following this evolution in design, the Smith Forefront 2 MIPS Helmet builds on the success of the original with increased aerodynamics, heightened protection, and airy-cool ventilation in a sleek, attractive lid for trail and all-mountain disciplines.

Smith's proprietary Aerocore In-Mold construction pairs traditional EPS foam with Koroyd tubular structures for better ventilation and a lighter overall weight, but without sacrificing impact dispersion and structural integrity. For the Forefront 2 Helmet, Smith fully encompasses the backside of the helmet with Koroyd structures for an even lighter, more airy feel than before. 20 optimized vents work with Koroyd tubular structures, allowing built-up heat to readily escape in all directions, so you're not susceptible to overheating and excessive sweating.

Of course, you're probably not surprised to see MIPS on a helmet of this pedigree, seeing the stand-out success this relatively new technology has witnessed over the past few years. MIPS technology places a low-friction liner inside the helmet, which allows the helmet to rotate independently around your head during a crash occurring at an angle. What this does is help to lessen rotational forces transmitted through the helmet, thereby giving you peace of mind when you're ripping down the trail and plunging into rocky stretches, especially when things go horribly wrong and you find yourself flying over the bars at high speeds.

    • Smith's premiere helmet for trail and all-mountain
    • MIPS low-friction liner disperses rotational forces
    • Aerocore In-Mold design is light, breathable, rugged
    • 20 large vents with Koroyd for increased breathability
    • Three-position visor is compatible with enduro goggles
    • VaporFit adjustable fit system for a customized fit
    • X-Static anti-odor lining with Reflective Cooling

    Great Helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have this helmet after various recommendations from people who took a header wearing it. You don't find a better vouch then that. I can't really add anything to the conversation but I can say, the only annoying thing is the open whole in the upper forehead area. I literally had a bee get stuck in there and sting me on Holy Roller at Dear valley. Other than the Bee Hole, it's amazing.

    Forgot i was wearing it

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got to use this helmet on a decent length ride the other day and thoroughly enjoyed the feel and overall comfort of the helmet. The ventilation was superb, the adjust-ability made for a great fit and over all i was happy with my choice of helmet.

    Light and Breezy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This thing is super easy to adjust, very light weight, and breathes quite well. Honestly you forget it's on until you get back to the car and bump it against the headrest.

    Light Lid

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this helmet. It's light, super comfy and breathes even with the MIPS liner.. The visor sits nicely as to not move down over the eyes as I have noticed with some helmets. Indigo/peony/iceberg color i chose, and love. Size M fits me good with adjustments which are easy and precise to make. Yay Smith helmets!

    Light, breathable, comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is hands down the most comfortable bike helmet I have ever worn! I tend to sweat a bunch from my head but this helmet helped minimize the problem. There's so much air running through it that the sweat evaporated much quicker than normal and it was much easier to keep it from getting in my eyes. It's also very comfortable and light, it almost gets to the mythical "forget that it's there" status. There are other half shel helmet out there that offer better coverage that could be more appropriate for enduro riding but for xc, trail and light-duty enduro it's hard to top this!

    Breathable Helmet

I thought I liked my current helmet until I demo'd this one for a Moab trip. The breathability was a night and day difference thanks to the Koroyd honeycomb construction. I loved that I could stash my sunglasses in the visor when I wasn't needing them. Only downside is now I want to buy a new helmet...

      Breathable Helmet

      Awesome Helmet

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have tried many MTB helmets and there is always something that doesn't fit right on my head. I tried one of these and on and knew I had to buy it immediately (bought it as soon as we got back to service!). The fit is perfect for me, and the dial tightener in back moves in very small increments to help with a perfect fit for all. Not to mention the improved ventilation and the lightness of the helmet!

      Awesome helmet!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love Smith's helmets, and this one is no exception. Extremely light, super breathable (thanks to it's Koroyd honeycomb construction) and it looks good too! (Helmet is pictured in the middle)

      Awesome helmet!

      Great Helmet

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Super breathable and a really comfortable fit on these things. Trustworthy and safe as usual for Smith, and durable. It's not perfect, and the fit isn't spot on for my head, but for what it is, it's gotten the job done.

      Perfect and everything I need

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Super stoked on this helmet. I agree with the review below me, it is hard to find a helmet where you don't want to be seen in but Smith did a killer job with the design on this helmet. It is very breathable too and I like the adjustable fit system in it too. The first day I wore it I took a pretty hefty fall and my noggin was kept safe and sound. Definitely would recommend this helmet!

Everything that I was Looking For

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was more than impressed with this helmet. We all know how hard it is to look no-dorky in a helmet, but I felt confident in this guy. It felt light and breathability was amazing I almost didn't notice it on my head after a while. I'm a giant fan of the Koroyd, but I would like to see a designed helmet hole for compatibility with Osprey's helmet holder system.

      Easy Easy, Light and Breezy

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had been wanting this helmet for a long time and finally decided to get one this season. Must say, best decisions I have made in a while. This helmet is exceedingly light, comfortable, and cool. The fit system is like a suction cup to your head, when fitted correctly and unbuckled you can head bang like you are at a rock concert and the thing doesn't move. I used to be blind with sunscreen dripping into my eye with sweat from my old helmet, and after my first to rides in the sun with this one, I had none such issues, very good venting.
I also feel safer in this helmet as it is highly rated and the MIPS system helps with certain impacts.
If you want a light, safe, and stylish helmet, this is the one!

      Makes Me Faster

The original forefront was my go to helmet, but the new Forefront 2 is a significant improvement over the original. Immediately noticeable better fit and coverage. The 3 Position Visor that's much more stable and versatile (Which is HUGE). Similar to the original, the sunglasses compatibility is clutch and well thought out for perching shades up high while climbing. Comfortable, MIPS, I thought sizing was spot on, looks sweet, and my head is protected! Checks all my boxes...

The Forefront 2 is really nice, but...

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I admit I have a large head and it just doesn't fit quite right and pinched my forehead, so more of a "me problem" I guess. It also immediately felt warm, just trying it on inside, I think the honeycomb, Koroyd, layer doesn't vent very well. Had to return it and try something else.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Smith really nailed it with this one. The Forefront 2 is comfortable, well-ventilated, and has great coverage for a half shell helmet. Does everything you'd want from a great helmet, and just happens to be one of the best looking ones out there. MIPS, great construction (the visor construction & function are a HUGE plus), stash spot for your sunglasses, integrated camera mount, great fit, well ventilated, looks great, instantly makes you 2X as fast, need I say more? I do tend to catch a hair or two when taking it off, but I feel almost petty mentioning it. Great helmet.

        Style and Protection!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Smith makes the coolest looking products but they also know how to keep your brains protected as you're flying down the hill. The Forefront 2 has great ventilation (I tend to get very sweaty) and it feels light and comfortable .

        new and improved

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

I'm a big fan of the original Forefront so trying the new version seemed like a no-brainer. The folks at Smith made some solid improvements. The styling and ventilation have been improved while retaining the lightweight comfort of the original.

        Great helmet with one gripe

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I owned the original Smith Forefront and rode it for a couple of years, and loved it, until I crashed and had to replace it. Because I liked the original I purchased the Forefront 2 with MIPS.

The good: great styling, great color selection, MIPS, comfortable, stays put, all good. It does what a helmet should do. Protect your noggin while not calling attention to itself.

The gripe: this is big for me, but maybe not for you. When I ride I tend to get what I call "hot head" - no matter what helmet I wear. My face and head always gets hot and it causes most glasses I wear to fog up. For that reason, I often put my glasses on my helmet until I'm done climbing and need them. The original Forefront had the eyewear groove above the visor, which made it very easy to place my glasses in the groove while riding and with one hand. On the Forefront 2 they've moved that groove underneath the visor. So, to get the glasses onto the helmet you need to move the visor up, and insert the arms of your glasses just right so they go into the groove underneath the visor. I have taken this helmet on 1/2 dozen rides so far and I can't get to the point where I can do this operation one-handed. This means that I need to stop, and with both hands insert the glasses into the channel. This is really irritating to me because I don't like stopping just to put glasses on my helmet. I can't get over this and I'm now irritated that I spent all of this money on this helmet and a seemingly simple design change has changed the way I have to ride. They claim that the groove in the back of the helmet will also hold your eyewear. It might, but who puts their glasses on the back of their head while riding? The fit of the eyewear/groove is not tight and I'm concerned that my eyewear will fall off without me knowing it.

Apart from that gripe, it's a great helmet. But, if you're like me, and you don't like stopping just to put eyewear onto your helmet, I'd look for a helmet that makes that process easier.
