Why We Like The PD-EH500 Pedals
The Shimano PD-EH500 Pedals are dual-sided pedals that have an SPD clip-in mechanism on one side, and a platform with traction pins on the other. This gives you the freedom to ride either clipped-in or on flats, without needing to change your pedals back and forth. They work well for urban riding, road touring, or light-duty trail riding, and and feature a light action that makes frequent stepping in and out much easier. In addition, they include a set of SH56 multi-release cleats, which further simplifies unclipping by allowing you to move your heel in multiple directions to release, rather than only being able to unclip by kicking your heel outwards horizontally.
- Dual-sided pedals let you ride clipped-in or on flats
- Ideal for urban riding, road touring, or light-duty trail riding
- Eight traction pins provide grip even in wet conditions
- Light-action SPD mechanism for easy clipping and unclipping
- Multi-release cleats further simplify unclipping
- Cleat retention adjuster lets you customize release tension
- Durable construction with sealed cartridge bearings for longevity

Great transition to riding clipless
- I've used it several times
Solid pedals, compact and metal. These are a nice upgrade from stock plastic pedals. Also a great transition to riding clipless. Note that as I found out there are two different styles of cleats that screw into your cycling shoes to enable riding on clipless pedals. This pedal has the two screw mount and is for MTB shoes, generally speaking. Road shoes use the three cleat system and use a different mechanism to engage the shoe and clip into the pedal. So if you are using road shoes with the three screw cleats you need to get the other style of Shimano pedal. Highly recommend if you have MTB shoes and want the option of riding with regular shoes or cycling shoes without changing pedals.

Best of both worlds!
- I've put it through the wringer
I purchased these pedals for my Canyon Grail. I have been riding my bicycle to run short errands locally, and the platform feature makes it easy to just hop on the bike and go. When Iâm going on a serious ride, the spd side of the pedal locks in securely with my cycling shoes. If you do rides for errands or family leisure time, itâs a great option! Color is not black, but thatâs no biggie in my opinion (my bike is flat black and flat charcoal gray) I canât see the color while I ride. Screw in studs on platforms hold flat bottomed shoes or trainers securely.

Great hybrid clipless-platform pedals
- I've used it several times
Overall great hybrid clipless platform pedals. Shipping was very fast with free 2 day service, however the Shimano box was already opened and the pre-lubed pedals where not properly packaged, thus the lube soaked the packing and dripped all over the pedals, making installing a bit tricky. The pedals are also not black but like a dark metallic blue like another poster has stated

Great Pedals - Beware of Color
Pedals are great in function, exactly as I had hoped. Disappointed in the color as they are more of a dark metallic blue than true black. On most bikes it probably doesn't matter, however, on my bike (which is 99% flat black) the color difference is very noticeable.

- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Bought these for a friend, and here’s what she had to say about them... Currently using my road bike to commute to school. I find it annoying to wear my clips for shorter rides or just around the neighborhood. These pedals are the perfect solution! I can clip in for those longer rides, and enjoy good traction and ease of use for those shorter rides.

Do the pedals come with the cleats?
