What Are Responsible Products?
We wish we could become 100% sustainable overnight, but everyone has to start somewhere. That’s why we’ve made it easier for you to find products that are responsibly manufactured or have a positive social impact. We work with our brand partners to display this information on product pages so you can find gear and brands that are putting people and our backcountry first.
For a product to be considered “responsible” on our site, it has to meet at least one of the following criteria: Certified B-Corp, bluesign® APPROVED, Organic Materials, or Recycled/Repurposed.
Certified B-Corp: These brands balance purpose and profit, meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability. A B-Corp’s goal is to use business as a force for good, driving positive impact for employees, communities, and our planet.Learn more here
Bluesign Approved: bluesign® is an independent authority that certifies each step of the textile production process as responsibly manufactured, with the lowest possible impact on people and planet. When a product is bluesign® APPROVED, it has been strictly tested to meet bluesign’s sustainability standards.Learn more here
Organic Materials: Products made with organic materials, such as organic cotton, fall into this category. To see what percentage of material is organic, check the tech specs toward the bottom of the product page.
Recycled/Repurposed: This includes products made from recycled material, such as plastic water bottles or down insulation, or repurposed material, such as nylon. Check the tech specs toward the bottom of the product page to see what percentage of the material is recycled or repurposed.
Responsible Wool Standard: Products in this category have been certified by the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), an independent, voluntary benchmark that ensures sheep are treated ethically and that the land on which they graze is managed and protected according to best practices.Learn more here
Responsible Down Standard: Products in this category have been certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), an independent, voluntary set of guidelines that ensures geese and ducks have not been subjected to unnecessary harm. This includes live-plucking and force-feeding. Products that are RDS-certified are made using 100% certified down.Learn more here
