With the stability to charge rowdy trails and the playfulness to hop around like a BMX bike, the Santa Cruz 5010 might just be our favorite bike for day-to-day trail rides. The 5010's most recent update saw the move to a lower-link VPP suspension like Santa Cruz's other bikes, offering a plush and supportive feel and positioning the shock lower in the frame for a lower center of gravity. This gives the bike a more planted feel than ever before, encouraging us to stay off the brakes and let the bike do its job.
Geometry on the 5010 is longer and slacker than any previous generation, but still retains the nimble characteristics that people love about this bike. The bike has a 65.4-degree head-tube angle in the slackest setting, great for getting the 27.5in front-wheel over obstacles without getting stuck. In a size medium, we get to enjoy a 77-degree seat-tube angle as the bike proves that it's not all about just going downhill. The long-wheelbase specced on the 5010 is a welcome addition to keep us comfortable at high speeds.
Santa Cruz tailors the geometry to the rider with size-specific chainstays, meaning that the bike handles the same across all frame sizes so riders tall and short can all enjoy this bike. Shimano handles shifting duties on the 5010 and offers 12 speeds of range with their reliable XT group, including a huge 51t cassette out back to propel us up those near-impossible climbs. RockShox suspension keeps us planted and in control, with a Super Deluxe Select+ in the rear mixed with a ready-for-anything RockShox Pike Select+ up front.
*Due to unprecedented demand in the global supply chain and the bike industry over the last 18 months, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be minor. If you have any questions, reach out to a Gearhead by chatting online or calling 1-888-276-7130.
