Top-shelf performance specifically for the girls.
You don't generally wear men's pants, shirts, or undies, so you shouldn't have to stuff your foot into a boot designed for a guy's foot, either. Thankfully, Salomon's steppin' out with a high-performance skate boot designed just for the ladies, the narrow-heel, low-volume Vitane Carbon Skate, engineered for girls who demand top-shelf skate performance. Like its male counterpart, the Vitane is kitted out with a lightweight, high-strength carbon skating plate in the sole that stores energy when flexed and releases it when unweighted, driving energy into the ski to keep you flying down the track, and a carbon 3D Energyzer cuff that gives you snappy ski return and eliminates tip drag, letting your ankle and lower leg muscles relax for easier kick with less fatigue.
As with all SNS Pilot boots, the Vitane has a double-axle pivot that's set back from the toe of the boots, giving you increased control over your ski and eliminating side-to-side motion in the boot-binding interface, ensuring that you're not wasting energy trying to keep your foot in line with the direction of your ski. In addition to the carbon skating plate, the sole has a full-length guide ridge that provides a stable platform during glide and downhill sections. The S-Lab cuff provides strong lateral support while allowing easy ankle flex, and closes with an easy-to-adjust Memo strap that conforms to all ankle shapes.
The Vitane isn't just a shrink 'n' pink women's version of the men's boot, either. It features a super-customizable fit, courtesy of thermo-moldable foam in the heel and forefoot as well as an adjustable heel strap, letting you dial in your fit for maximum comfort and performance. An internal sock holds your foot in place while SensiFit Overlap construction has semi-soft wings that enclose the foot from both sides, locking in place with a precise one-pull Quicklace system, and a racing insole provides foot support for hard-charging ladies. Even with all this, the Vitane weighs in at 30 grams lighter than Salomon's top-shelf men's S-Lab Pro boot, so you can laugh at your training partner when you blow by him.

- Q & A
Great Rookie--Intermediate Skate Boot
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
These were my first boots of my own, after borrowing/renting for the past four or so years I've been nordic skiing. I really like the way Salomon ski boots fit, though some friends say that they don't suit their feet as well.
The soles are perfectly stiff, while the ankle is a bit less stiff than the S-Lab Carbon, it suits my needs well. Having a narrower ankle, I like that the heel fit is adjustable by tightening a strap that goes around your ankle and velcros to the inside of the boot.
I've been super stoked on these for the first three weeks of use here in the Wasatch!
As with most Salomon shoes, I sized down a bit: I'm usually a 7.5 US (38EU). and went with the US 6.5 (38) after trying on in person.
