Why We Like The Wildfire Edge Hiking Shoe
Our days of switching out approach shoes for climbing shoes are over thanks to the versatile Salewa Wildfire Edge Hiking Shoe. This unique shoe is a hybrid of an approach and climbing shoe that offers comfortable support on the hike in, and climbing-ready performance for the main event. When you're ready to climb, just tighten the SwitchFit laces that bring your foot forward in the shoe, compressing your toes into the climbing-like toe box for technical control on challenging routes.

Best Fit So Far

I have been in and out of Approach Shoes from Black Diamond and LaSportiva. Recovering from ankle surgery, I was looking for a new pair with good lateral support. The La Sportiva model I came for wasn't in stock in my size; so I tried these on, and within minutes realized these Salweas fit me exactly as I wanted/needed. I can't comment on the changeable innersoles, because I accidentally tossed the extra pair; but I see no need to tweak what's already working for me so well. I have a new brand with Salewa; and may get the waterproof version of these shoes for Winter dog walking and hiking. I would definitely use these shoes for Approach to my outside crag adventures. And they sure make a statement in the blue colorway!?!?!?

THE shoes for rocky terrain!
The Wildfire EDGE are THE approach shoes for hiking in rocky terrain. Gonna be boulder hopping? Scrambling Class III summits? These are your shoes. I use the regular Wildfires for all other non-technical hiking.

Odd look.

Purchased these shoes for a number of reasons. Fit was good, felt comfortable. I am 6?2 athletic build wearing a size 12. However, once laced up they appeared a little odd. Laces seemed really far apart and wide spread. Tightened them up to ensure a good fit and walked around a bit. My wife came in and said, ?what?s with the wide laces?? After looking at them, the eyelettes are far apart and quite wide. So, it gave an odd look that I couldn?t get over.

Go-to shoes
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

I?ve had them for about a year. Put them through the wringer, hiking, scrambling and mountain biking. No blisters no pain spots, just very comfortable at every occasion. Sole has good grip, ?my favorite mountain bike shoes (flat pedals), they grip well on the pedals. Only thing to remember is that they are not waterproof (own GTX version for wet days). Just bought a new pair ...

This shoe has been fantastic to get out on the trails and put the switch fit to work on some scrambles. The climbing zone lacing paired with the anchors on the side of your feet provide a near custom fit! I use these specifically on scrambles in the flatirons and bagging 14ers in Colorado. But, they are still a go to for the office or running to the grocery store. The eva midsole is comfortable and still forgiving for being on your feet for long periods! I would suggest a break in period for this model! I am an employee of the Brand and hope this information proves useful.
