Expedition 8000 Mitten
The world's coldest temperatures and most extreme conditions call for the use of the Rab Expedition Mitten. Saying these mittens are heavily insulated is a gross understatement. Featuring 850-fill goose down, the Expedition Mitten keeps your digits toasty when you explore the world's highest peaks and polar regions.
Featuring a Pertex Endurance shell, these gloves provide total protection from howling winds and snow. Hard-wearing nylon throughout high abrasion areas ensures long-lasting use. The one-handed shock cord conveniently secures the mitten's gauntlet-style closure around your jacket cuff for an impenetrable fortress against the elements.

- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I purchased a pair of these +1 size than I normally wear so that I could wear a separate inner glove to provide additional warmth in _really_ cold places, and also so that when I take the mitt off my hands would not be exposed to dangerous cold air. Unfortunately even with the +1 size it is very difficult to get the mitt on over the inner gloves that I purchased. Strangely enough the left mitt goes on easier than the right one. Particularly the right thumb just doesn't go in. Not sure if there is anything different about them internally. If I were to do it over again I would probably purchase a different mitt that had a bulit-in (removable) liner that was known to work with the mitt. Also I don't really like the elastic that they put into the wrist area. It makes them more difficult to put on. Seems like the external adjustable webbing strap would be sufficient to close up the gaps without the elastic.

- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
If there is a single piece of gear that I have purchased that inspires me to go harder than yesterday- it is this mitt. I bought my partner the Rab Neutrino and this mitt for her winter camping set up and this is what she had to say: "I love them. I've worn them skiing and I've worn them snow shoeing and they are great. I like these way more than my OR and BD 6000 gloves because of the lightweight flexibility of these gloves. My only complaint is the hand box is rather large for my hand but with a good liner, it fills a lot of the space. The extra space doesn't make the glove any warmer or colder as far as I can tell."

Rab Hydrophobic Down
In the early days, Rab Carrington built his brand around down insulation, and we still see down manufacturing as a core part of the Rab brand today. All of our down insulated products are filled with the highest quality Hydrophobic Down, developed in conjunction with Nikwax. The hydrophobic treatment is applied at source and is seen as the next step in our progression in down manufacturing.
