POC redesigns the Fornix for additional security and performance on the slopes while maintaining a classic vibe that is at home on either coast. Creature comforts, such as the goggle lock and venting chimney, are fitted within the updated PC shell that now covers the full helmet rim. POC inserts their SPIN (Shearing Pad Inside) in the EPS foam for next-level impact protection, and include the traditional Aramid penetration protection from the previous generation. All-day comfort is achieved with the highly adjustable fit system and venting holes that keep you performing during the skin up and then the ski down.

First helmet
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

- M/L
I love the feel and weight of the helmet, however this is my first ski helmet since I dont typically use one, I dont have much to compare it to but I do like it! Doing a lot of skiing in the warmer south east, the vents practically stay open most of the time so I'm not cooking my head. I find it easy to adjust it and find a good tension on my head that keeps it from bouncing around but also comfortable to wear all day. Also the helmet paired with my POC goggles fit together like a good handshake. My only gripe if I have to pick one would be how it fits near the front of my head, just puts some pressure on my head that takes a few minutes to get used to and probably will dissipate as I break it in more.. Also maybe I should take that gripe up with partially egg shaped head. Good helmet!

The New Old Reliable

Years ago I had a similar POC helmet. With a more oval-shaped head, I found the helmet was on the rounder side, putting pressure on my forehead, causing discomfort. Having loved my Smith Vantage helmet, I was wary to make the jump back to POC. With 70 days in the new Fornix SPIN helmet, I can say I'm sold. Then again, I was sold after a week once the helmet padding broke in a bit. The helmet is lightweight and breathes well with the help of an integrated ventilation system you can open/close with the flip of a switch. The earpieces are removable for those very warm days on the mountain. The fit is customizable, though where it tightens was a little higher on the head than I'd prefer. But I also don't (have to) crank it down too much, so it doesn't bother me. The seamless fit with the POC goggles is the icing on top. They fit together so well and the helmet's ventilation system minimizes goggle fogging. Do yourself a favor and grab the Fornix SPIN and pair it with the Orb Clarity goggles.

great resort helmet

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I have skied for 20+ years and am very particular when it comes to my gear. I have always fit into a medium or medium/large helmets, this helmet is no exception. For reference, my other inbounds helmet is the sweet protection trooper II mips. Both helmets are incredibly comfortable. This helmet has been used exclusively inbounds in colorado, ranging from single digits(Fahrenheit) to sunny days in the mid 30’s with a balaclava worn underneath(covid mask requirements). The helmet ventilated well in 30 degree weather and never felt cold on the single digit days. Like all of poc’s helmets, this appears to be well made! I don’t make a habit of hitting my head so I cannot speak to the durability following a head strike. I’ll include a picture of the helmet for an idea of color and fit. I typically prefer more understated colors but the brighter colors seem to work well for friends/family finding you easily at the resort. The poc fornix spin is light enough that I wouldn’t have a reservation taking it with me backcountry skiing although I would think its best application will be inbounds as I get fairly toasty on the skin track and will often use a black diamond vapor for these days.

Great overall helmet!

I got the POC Fornix Spin Helmet in Uranium Black size M/L and it?s great! I have a size 54-55 cm head, so I thought I would size up and that was the right call. It fits true to size. The adjustable fitting dial made it nice and snug. It fit is just a little round for my head. I have used this for both snowboarding at the resort and for touring. It has a seamless fit with my POC Orb Clarity goggles and the vents adjustments were nice to have open for the warm conditions. The POC Fornix Spin Helmet is of great quality, lightweight addition to my touring pack, and also looks great when doing laps in the park.

Has anyone used this with SMITH goggles, and how does it fit. Also can you remove the earpieces and still have the dial for tightening?
