Attache Locking Carabiner

Petzl's Attache Locking Carabiner is particularly useful to climbers when you're belaying with a Munter hitch. Its wide head accommodates Munters as well as clove hitches, while the narrow bottom stabilizes your belay device for better ergonomics. Petzl designed this compact carabiner with an H-shaped cross section to keep it light and strong. The screw lock gate features a red visual indicator that will alert belayers when the carabiner is unlocked.

Best Carabiners

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have a few that are 10 years old and never had any issues with them. They are the best carabiners by a long way.

Lightweight, comfortable carabiner

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Compared to other analogues, this carbine is lighter, while having the same functionality. Opens comfortably. There is a red mark on the open carabiner. The thread works well. One thing to consider is that the carabiner has a thin profile, so for workouts where low weight is not necessary, it is better to use full-body carabiners.

Love the red indicator

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These are great lockers. They are light and compact for an HMS carabiner. I love the red indicators. I like using these to clove into anchors even though I could use something a bit smaller. I also use them to for belaying/rappelling. I?ve used them as the master point in a girth hitch anchor. These have a bit or a reputation for getting stuck, and I?ve experienced this too, but I?ve never had too hard a time getting them unstuck. Make sure that if you lock it weighted your unlock it weighted.

Best locker

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is the best locker on the market. I really loved the original and was hesitant when this version came out but you get all of the fresh qualities with half of the weight! They?re the best!

Got stuck/locked!

One of these got stuck/locked and couldn't open it without pliers later. Will be replacing all of these.

Gets stuck, forced me to lose gear

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I used this at an anchor and it got stuck, resisting all of our attempts to unstick it over half an hour. I was forced to leave it along with the perfectly good sling I had used for the anchor. It is well documented that this biner sticks, see other reviewer and Mountain Project. I?m just glad I didn?t have it stick in my PAS and get me stuck up a cliffside. I plan on replacing all of these that I own.

Gets stuck locked

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The current generation of the Petzl Attache has a well documented failure mode where it gets stuck locked. Petzl claims this is due to over-tightening but there's a lot of evidence that this is not the case. The Attache on my GriGri got stuck locked recently when we were consciously trying to avoid over-tightening it -- I had noticed a bit of grittiness in the threads and was aware of the issue. This was very inconvenient and would not have happened with any other modern carabiner. See mountain project, etc, for many more reports.
