    The only shorts you'll need.

You can bring a lot of gear on river rafting trips, but the only shorts you'll really want, or need, are the Patagonia Men's GI III Shorts. They're made from durable nylon, which is quick to dry, and treated with a DWR finish to repel moisture. The GI III also boasts UPF 50 sun protection to protect your gams from gamma rays. And, when your camp just happens to be near some irresistible boulders, the gusseted crotch, elastic waist, and integrated belt will make sussing out a few quick problems just a bit easier.

Best Shorts I have Ever Owned

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I am going to try keep this review short (no pun intended.) These shorts are one of the best pieces of gear I have ever owned. I have owned one pair for a year now and they show almost no real wear even though they have gotten 50+ days of use. I just purchased another pair today.

Fit: Medium fits me great. I am 6 foot and wear a 31 waist. The legs are a little baggy but I have small legs. I like the elastic band and adjustable belt.

Design: Very light and comfortable nylon material. I have used them in water and on land, in the office and out on the trail. I have used them kayaking, fishing, camping, hiking, sleeping, and just about every thing imaginable. Surprisingly they kept me most dry in an hour long downpour. They also have a UPF 50 rating to keep you protected from the son as well. I also like the zip pockets on the side and back so your items won't fall out.

Quality: Patagonia makes some of the products on the market. I've never had an issue with these shorts.

Cons: I would give these shorts a 9.5/10. They are really awesome but they aren't perfect. The Material is so light that it can make carrying heavy items in your pockets unfortable. Could use two back zippers instead of one.

I would 100% recommend this product.

Great shorts but some sizing variations

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I have 3 pairs of Gi-III's purchased in late 2016 and early 2017 and love them for backpacking and hiking. The material was light enough to be comfy on a recent trip to Death Valley but tough enough for a long day of class 3 & 4 boulder scrambles on sandstone (not as tough as Prana's Zion though). Dries quick too. Medium worked well for my 33" waist (large was too big). Really liked how the waist button is super secure, unlike snaps. Also liked the no-slip belt. I don't understand the comments about these being too baggy. I have shorts from various makers 5 to 10 years old and those are baggy! This is in comparison a slimmer cut but not tight and still roomy enough for rough hiking/backpacking.

Only complaint I have is there's some size variation within the same size. I bought mediums at different times from different sites (including BC) and noticed some were looser fitting than others (I preferred the looser variation). So try them on if you can, otherwise buy from places like BC with good return policies.

    Great shorts but baggy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

These are a great lightweight adventure short. They fit great but the legs are a little too baggy. The UPF 50 is nice for long days in the sun and they dry very quickly if they get wet.

    So far they are killer

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

***I am going to start this review off with the precursor that I have yet to do anything seriously active or in water with these shorts***

I got these shorts to add to my arsenal of all around, do everything, adventuring shorts. They have awesome features such as a quick-dry material, enough pockets for the essentials, a gusseted crotch, draining pockets, an already-faded look, an integrated belt, and a super sturdy feeling button. They are the perfect length for my style and I don't see too much stretching going on.

I am about 6', 155lbs, and my waist is 30 on a good day. I bought the size small and they are perfect for me.

I could see these shorts being amazing for hiking, rafting, camping, climbing, boating, traveling, and drinking at the lake. There is no mesh liner so wearing some undies would be recommended (plus they have a zipper so commando could mean danger). Another note is that the tolerance for the button hole is actually so tight that I had trouble getting them buttoned initially. My guess is it'll get easier over time.

    So far so GREAT!

These shorts really do it all

I am 5'11 and weigh 180 with a waist size of around 33 and large fits perfect. What I really like about these is the adjustable belt that is sewn into the shorts. There are drainage holes in the pockets so these shorts can be used as swim trunks. The shorts dry very quickly after they get wet. They are very comfortable and very well designed. I would recommend these shorts to any adventurer out there. These are a true "GoTo" pair of shorts
