Crafted from a stretchy yet ultra-durable ripstop fabric, this jacket breathes exceptionally well to let you pursue high-output activities without overheating or being restricted, and features a waterproof AscentShell laminate to protect you from the wet rain, sleet, and snow that usually come with mountain adventures. Outdoor Research also made the hood helmet-compatible to take the question of sacrificing safety for comfort off the table before you leave your home. Dynamic reach underarm panels enable mobility when you're stuck on the wall, and the pockets are situated above where your harness would go to meet the needs of any alpine expedition.

Too thin and papery
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- M
I like O.R. but just found this jacket too thin. I didn't test the breathability but returned the jacket because I was worried about durability. So I exchanged it for a jacket in goretex active, which is a little sturdier.

Poor quality
- Familiarity:

Great idea poor execution. Very comfortable shell, decently breathable but way too thin and not durable at all. Wets out after a few hours, not wind proof, and tears easily. Had my cell phone in the front pocket for a 3 hour hike and it wore a small hole in it. I guess it's gore tex or nothing

Acentshell 3L fabric works in the rain
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- medium
- Height:
- 5' 9"
- Weight:

I have an older version of the Guardian jacket with the same Ascentshell 3L fabric. I can attest that it provides effective rain protection despite its seeming thinness and lightweightness. I've spent hours in steady pouring rain and never found that the fabric wets out, which is more than I can say for most other "waterproof" jackets. Its lightweight, thin construction makes it a very packable and reliable summer rain jacket. It's well constructed and the fabric works as advertised without adding unwanted weight and bulk. It has proven very durable over time despite its lightweight feel.
