Why We Like The Sawtooth X Low Waterproof Shoe

The Sawtooth X Low Waterproof Shoe is an updated version of a loved original that lends even greater support and balance. This comes from two places: an updated midsole that uses adaptive foam and a nylon shank to better steady our every step with utmost comfort and a sticky True Tread outsole that clutches the ground with a rubber-to-tarmac-like grip. What remains is the B-Dry membrane for breathability always and protection when strolling through puddle-ridden trails.

I have only ever owned Oboz casual shoes and thought I would give their hiker a try. I was pleased to find the same supportive and cushioned insole (same as my Oboz Bozeman) and found that the shoe fit similarly too. I have a wider-than-average foot with a narrow heel and fit the Sawtooth X perfectly. Walking around the first thing that struck me was how comfortable they were out of the box. I didn't feel like I needed to break them in at all! I also love that the rubber on the bottom is nice and grippy. I look forward to putting many more miles on them.

During Covid I walked over 5,000 miles. I tried Salomon's, On's , Merrill's and others. I developed Achilles tendinitis and have picks OBOZ with orthotics as my go to show for my next 5,000 +++ miles. Size is perfect and true for me.

Sawtooth X Low Waterproof Shoe - Men's

the length is just fine, but the shoe itself is sssssssssooooooooooo narrow that my foot barely fits in.

Made the mistake of ordering these in my same size as previous Sawtooths and found they are about a half-size larger than those. While these seem like they would be even more comfortable than the previous generation and offer a wider toebox in the medium width, I ultimately opted not order a half-size smaller because I wasn't wowed with the design of the tongue – which had the waterproof liner/gusset about a half-inch to three-quarters of inch from the top set of eyelets – thus making for a sizable amount of real estate for water incursion into the shoe, even when wearing a pair of pants. The older Sawtooths had the liner and gusset up to the top eyelets, which is the optimal design for water protection. To me, this is a serious shortfall in Oboz' design, but especially when they supposedly spent so long designing this new iteration...pretty daft on their part. They also had shoelaces that are very short and incapable of doing a knot on them, if you're like me and inclined to use a single-overhand or double-knot.
