Scorpius 2 Plus Wide Cycling Shoe

Instead of the crowded toes and pressure points that come with stuffing an oversized foot into a traditional mountain bike shoe, give a good look at the Northwave Men's Scorpius 2 Plus Wide Cycling Shoe. This wide mountain bike shoe provides a proper platform to conquer technical trails without nasty hot spots and painful pinching holding you back, especially if you've been riding with standard width footwear for a while.

The Scorpius 2 Plus Wide fine-tunes the fit and feel to your exact needs with its SLW2 dial, which tightens in precise increments and loosens with the push of a single button for easy removal. This micro-adjustable dial is complemented with a lower hook-and-loop strap that secures over the forefoot to prevent lift under power. Both adjustment mechanisms tighten a thermowelded upper that's both extremely rugged and highly ventilated, thanks to mesh inserts and reinforced overlays placed exactly where you need them.

Looking underfoot, you'll find a triple-density Speedlight 3D sole that's moderately stiff on Northwave's index, sitting at 10 of 15 on the stiffness scale. This means you'll have more than sufficient power transfer for everyday rides and training needs, yet it's not punishingly stiff when you need to dismount and walk over technical sections of trail. For these hiking needs, Northwave places traction lugs over the forefoot and heel to grip into rocky outcroppings, loamy soil, and bumpy root sections lining the trail.

  • Designed for the needs of mountain bikers with wide feet

Northwave does not know wide shoe sizes

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit:
Runs small
Size Bought
43
Height
5` 10"
Weight
165 lbs

This is not BC's fault, but this shoe is just as narrow as an normal size Shimano shoe. I compared them to my normal Shimano MTB shoes I was trying to replace, and they were nearly identical in width. Then I compared them to my WIDE Shimano road shoes, and the Northwaves were nowhere near the same width. The 43 size I bought was comparable to length as a size 10. The Northwaves were labeled on the box as wide but maybe something got lost in translation. Some positive take-aways though. They were pretty light which impressed me initially before I tried them on and the build quality appeared to be pretty good.

Not a wide shoe

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Fit:
Runs small
Size Bought
43 wide

This claims to be a wide shoe. It is not. In a size 43, the widest part of the shoe is 96 mm wide. For a shoe that size, a narrow should be 97 mm, a medium should be 102 mm, and a wide should be 106 mm. So, in between a narrow and medium width. I double-checked on the shoe itself that it was the wide version - it indeed claimed to be a wide. I had to return - product was not at all as described.
