MSR Trail Lite Duo System

Great for two people, love how it holds so much for two people.

As always MRS has done a great job. the weight is great, great size to cook for two, easy clean up.

I bought this cook set just before a trip to Iceland - we used it for pretty much every meal for 8 days, and loved it! While we didn't test it out backpacking, it's quite light weight and compact for all that it contains! I was able to add a small stove and utensils inside the nested set, and then it had everything we needed in one convenient set. I'm very happy with this purchase.

The kit is very convenient. However, I did go right back to BC and order titanium. The kit has everything that you'd need, but it's a little big/heavy for me. I mainly use it for car camping, fishing, or tailgating. If I'm packing in, I'd rather go minimal.

I have found a million uses for everything in this set. I use this from cooking at the car on trips, to backpacking adventures. Everything cleans out easily, no mess, no fuss. Pick one up!

This little system is awesome. Its simple, straight forward and everything works as you'd expect. There are some air gaps in the mugs so if you are a packing nut you can shove some food in there to save space. We use it on a whisperlite and jetboil with the pot/pan holders.

First off, this thing is light for what it is and what comes inside it. A little over a pound for 2 plates, 2 bowls, a pot, lid and handle is not too shabby. I thought that I was going to be getting some flimsy stuff for that weight and I am not disappointed!

It's really nice that inside the 2 mugs, I can add the little things, like sugar, tea, salt/pepper and it keeps them sealed up and out of the way. Not to mention I can also throw some other items in there as well, like a lighter and a bug netting cap to keep the little things together and out of the way.

When I tested this pot at home, I didn't notice that the handle got too hot to use alone as a way to grab the pot off my Optimus Vega stove. Hopefully it stays that way on backpacking trips.

I'll be able to add more to this review once I've gone out exploring with this in tow.

organization to me is a key element for a successful backpacking trip is an organized pack. This little set is wonderful. It packs down to a convenient size, and is cleverly designed to fit all the utensils perfectly. We love this system.

I love this set - it's affordable and durable. It's much nicer than the larger GSI set I had for more - around camp stuff (which is great in it's own way). I really like the bowls that it includes because they are very usable unlike a lot of the bowls in sets that I've encountered. The mugs are a great feature too.



Can't really go wrong with this set!

I opened this up before gifting it (shhh) and it looks like a solid set. I purchased it based on the positive reviews and can tell any avid hiker or backpacker would get a lot of use of this. Perfect for the newlyweds who may opt for a cheaper vacation after a costly wedding.



I can't comment on how well the pot performs, but aside from that it's simply some sturdy plastic cups and bowls that stack into each other. If that's what you need, this is great.

Just like Gowski says its a great buy. I picked one up and it works great I'm not having any of the issues that the first reviewer had.

I really like this set as it can be very customizable for what you are using for. I've used it on a half dozen trips now and it never fails. For solo trips I take out one of the plates and one of cups, and doing this allows me to fit a gas canister where the second cup usually is. My MSR Microrocket stove, igniter and a lighter all fits in one cup, and utensils, teas, sugar, napkins and MSR canister- stand all fit in the pot. The fact that all these things fit is great!



I'm not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about with the pot holder...mine is tight and hasn't failed once. Strains perfectly, Click over the top perfectly, and the MSR coffee strainer works perfectly. I haven't seen a reason to take the handle off and I really don't think you are supposed to, which is prob why theres' is getting loose. I do agree the mug lids are tight, but not annoyingly tight. They kinda click on, and will prob loosen up after more use. See my vid below on how I use this set.

Have to admit that this pot/bowl set was an impulsive purchase when browsing the local outdoor retailer. While the set is acceptable, I should have spent a little more to get a better system. Problems with the Trail Lite Duo:

1. The pot holder is a snap-on design, basically a T stick that is held by an U attachment. However it is very easy to pull the stick out of the attachment if you are not careful or don't know how the joint works and try to force the matter. The problem with this thing is that it also works as the retainer of the lid. So basically you have to take it on and off at least twice when you use the pot. Once the stick is off, it is a pain to stick it back in.With only one weekend of use, the attachment is already coming loose. I can't imagine it last a year. MSR's Quick and Alpinist pots use a different mechanism that may work better.



2. The lid of the mug is difficult to use. It is not easy to open (which can be a good thing). When it opens, it keeps falling into the mug. I was doing this in summer without a glove one. It is most-likely not going to work well in winter.
