Why We Like The Firefall 2 Insulated Pant

Icy, whipping winds don't scare us off the mountain when we're in the Firefall 2. The stretchy insulation keeps our body heat on lockdown without the bulk, so we can carve and slash unrestricted while the weatherproof exterior stops gusts and spray from finding a way in.

Good but small on hips sizing

Has adequate room in general, except for the hips. For some reason there's an elastic strap going around the hip area; I presume this is to prevent some sagging when people fall, but annoyingly the elastic doesn't allow my hips to fit, as the rest of the pants is fine (and presumably it would fit without said elastic band). The elastic band gives it a gusseted look, which helps you have a more comfortable wearing experience, if your hips can fit.

My review was removed

MountainHardwear- Why did you remove my 1 Star review and also that of another user? These are a poor design of pants with an intrusive seam and poor pockets

good looking but very basic

These are a good looking very basic pair of ski pants. the outer material is quite a bit different than I’ve seen on other mountain hardware clothes (a bit shiny). I have the golden brown pants which I get compliments on. I deducted one star for the really crappy gators. like most mountain hardwear items the quality has gone down and lack of details gone up ever since Columbia bought them. The gators on these pants are way too short - gators in ski pants should be at least as long as the pants themselves and even maybe even a bit longer. but these are about 4 inches shorter than the pants so they barely cover the top of a boot and when you bend down they will just pop right off. My previous mountain hardware pants had a really nice gator with a thick elastic band imprinted with mountain hardwear - the ones here are just really short generic gators with a thin elastic - clearly just done to save money. I also removed a star because all previous pants used to have an elastic waist adjustment with Velcro. these do not, so you will need to buy a belt. so even though these pants are cheap you’ll probably have to pay some money to lengthen the gators as I did and you will need to buy a belt, Another observation is that the insulating material is quite thin - not a bad thing has thinner material is nicer on a warmer day and you can always just add a thicker base layer, but just thought I would let you know that the insulating material is thinner than previous pants I’ve had from mountain hardwear.

Will Hold Up To Long Days On The Slopes

Quality is good. Material will hold up to long days on the slopes, but runs small. I'm 5"11 and 187 and bought a medium like the sizing guide suggests, but it was like trying to pull on skinny jeans. Could not even bend knees to squat down. Kind of annoying they don't do exchanges - you have to return and completely re-buy, but thats a service issue, not a quality issue. Overall they will meet at exceed my expectations now that ive got the sizing correct. Could use some sort of waist cinchers to hold on hips better, rather than need to buy a belt. Small detail.

More than solid, all the features you need

These pants are it. Very comfortable, slim in the leg and fit perfectly over your boot, water proof, and has all the features you need: crotch zips for air flow on hot days, elastic boot lining to stop snow from getting up your leg, long zipper ties for easy use with gloves, slim mid thigh pocket for phones, Velcro reinforced button. Is there anything else you need?
