    Dynobirds of a feather.

It's bigger than a bread box, light as a bouquet of feathers, and it might be distant cousins with the Sinosauropteryx. This marvel-worthy piece is Mountain Hardwear's Dynotherm Hooded Down Jacket. Consider it a rare breed in the world of down jackets, a sort of non-avian, feathered dinosaur that's made for keeping you warm, even when wet.

Built for those unexpectedly-awful crag days or cool evenings spent hanging around the campfire, this lightweight 650-fill down jacket is crafted with a durable ripstop fabric and the uniquely water resistant Q.Shield Down insulation. Each down filament is coated with a DWR treatment, ensuring that you stay cozy-warm through those unanticipated, damp cold fronts. The double-need stitching adds durability, style and texture while low-profiled hood and dual hem drawcords seal in warmth. Equipped with pack compatible chest and hand warmer pockets, this jacket caters to whatever adventure you choose embark upon.

    Comfy, warm and stylish

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I like the two tone color they have on this so many puffy jackets are one solid color these days. It's warm and fits nicely. I got a small and it works well. I'm 6ft and 150 lbs and it works well. It has a slimming fit so that nice, some puffy jackets are so loose fitting, not the case here.

Warm and lofty, especially for the price

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

I was surprised at how lofty and warm this jacket actually is. I've had it for over 3 months and have had no down leakage to speak of. The other surprising quality about this jacket is its water repellency, although the fabric id heavier than other high end jackets, it does a really good job blocking wind and some water. Really happy with it!

    Great Jacket

    • Size Bought: medium

Warm, very lightweight, and fits well. The only drawback is that the hood does not have a drawstring to cinch down when you get into the really windy exposed areas.

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"

I bought a medium because I wanted a snug fitting jacket and to use it under a heavy coat. 32" waist and the bottom of the jacket is perfect without having to tighten the waistband. Arm length is dead on which is good since the cuffs aren't really tight. The hood snugs up to keep wind out pretty well and allows for good peripheral vision. I have fairly broad shoulders so it's a little tight when crossing my arms but is loose enough when reaching up. I swapped from my normal coat and fleece combo to this on a 2C snowy day and was plenty warm. Light wind today so I'm not sure about wind resistance but I didn't feel any of the light breezes. The hand pockets are warm and the chest pocket just fits my iPhone 6+ with a thin case. Going from desk to outside I'm a little hot back inside initially but quickly get to a comfortable temperature in the office. Very happy with my purchase especially since it was on sale.

    Great puffy, working terriffic

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'1"

I am at 6500 ft here in Colorado. Never gets insane cold here which directed me to this down jacket. This puffy is perfect for me, in that it isnt super thick like the800 fill options, but still plenty warm. I mainly wear it out and about to and from work, or for whatever else outside. Hood is insulated and form fitting around your head, no room for over a helmet or anything.

Temps recently dropping down to single digits, keeps me perfectly warm. If you are looking for a packable , super lightweight, super insulated puffy to climb peaks and ski northern rockies temps i would look at a higher price point. But if your needs are simple like me this thing is amazing.

Large has extra room in case i fatten up :) Medium probably would have been too small. It might run a tiny bit large.

    Perfect fit.

I tried and returned 4 other similar jackets because the fit wasn't right e.g. arm pits too tight, too long in the torso, arms too short, too much room around the waist. It is not a cold weather (20's) jacket unless you wear a layer under it. it's Mountain Hardware so the quality is top shelf. Don't know why I try other brands :-) :-)

I'm 6' 2", 190 lbs with 37" sleeve length. What size jacket will fit best, a large or extra large?

    Michael,

Large is my best, educated guess for you. If you need to make exchange, I could set that all up for you. Just let me know! You can reach me by phone or email. 801.746.7587 ejenson@backcountry.com
