    Highly breathable, highly protective.

The Montane Men's Axion Neo Alpha Jacket brings the breathable comfort that alpinists, mountaineers, and backcountry skiers need. Its fully micro-taped, 3-layer Polartec NeoShell ensures waterproof protection despite the jacket's high levels of breathability, and Alpha insulation is Polartec's most air permeable and packable insulation for warmth in winter's worst environments. Peaq Hyper mesh lines the jacket for extra ventilation, and Peaq Synthetic keeps the powder skirt strong in waist-high snow.

The Axion's athletic fit includes articulated arms for mobility and a relaxed chest for layers. The powder skirt is removable for climbers, and the hood slides over helmets or cinches over beanies with ease, and both the adjustable cuffs and hem seal out cold drafts. Montane added YKK AquaGuard zippers at every external opening for extra protection that most ski jackets don't have. The deep A-line pockets are always accessible, even with a backpack or harness on.

    Excellent Ski Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I took this jacket skiing this weekend. Here are the results:

Day 1 - 32F and a light breeze. I just wore the Axion Neo Alpha Jacket and a lightweight merino wool baselayer. I wasn't cold at all on the lifts or on the slopes and I was dry when we were done. I brought an extra fleece, just in case, but I never put it on.

Day 2 - 40F and no breeze. I wore the same thing (lightweight wool baselayer and this jacket). I was a little warm when I pushed it hard on the trails, but the sweat evaporated quickly.

Overall, I was surprised by how warm I was. I can say from experience that this thing will keep you warm down to 32F on a chairlift at 2,000 feet (with nothing more than a light baselayer to assist it).
