    Great bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have the medium and it's a perfect carry-on. It's spacious enough for a week-long trip, but I would suggest packing cubes for organization. The backpack/duffel hybrid is great for traveling since it's easy to carry and has such a huge opening. The handles everywhere are also great, and it feels sturdily build. Zippers work smoothly with no snags. Excellent buy.

    Perfect carry on

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought for my 12 year old. Nice features with backpack straps, interior and exterior pockets, Seems durable, not tested yet though, deceptively large, perfect size for carry on. A little hard to load because it lacks structure to stay upright but as that’s my only beef. Cool color, stand out and my son likes it so I’m happy.

    Great all-around travel bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased the large red and black for a screaming deal through Backcountry and have used it on a few road trips. All around great bag. Super durable build, haven't tested water resistance, but would not hesitate to walk through a monsoon with this thing. There is a compromise using backpack straps for a duffel handle, but like anything trying to do it all; there is going to be something it's not perfect at. Overall, I'm super stoked on it and look forward to a lifetime of use from it. I purchased a medium size in black and red from another discount gear website and while I'm very happy with it as well, the medium is not as big as I thought and would be a great overnighter, but as someone that has a hard time packing light, it has been relegated to a snowboard gear bag. Medium is perfect for my helmet, 3 or 4 pairs of googles, 2 or 3 pairs of gloves, and spare clothes. As a side note, I'm super impressed with Backcountry's Customer Service: I placed the order at a later time in the evening ;) and realized immediately I hadn't deleted my old address and it was going to be sent there.... after a quick couple messages through the site someone fixed the problem saving me a nightmare. Huge thumbs up to them for a shame on me moment. Not to mention shipping has been super fast on the 3 orders I've placed. Thanks for the Stoke, Backcountry!

    Perfect pack for 3 weeks

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought the 50 liter pack for a month long trip through Europe (we weren't backpacking, but I didn't want to take hard sided luggage). This pack was perfect ! I was able to pack everything in it, perfect size, the pockets and the packing straps inside were a wonder, and the backpack straps were pretty comfortable for walks to and through the airport +- 30 minutes. I had it loaded with about 25 pounds and it still stayed comfortable and didn't shift weight too much. It fit perfectly in every airplanes overhead luggage bin and i never had a problem with the size on any airlines, (large, and small regional planes). I also loved the holding straps all over the bag, it made life easier when pulling it out of baggage carousels, overhead bins, and trains. I also like the waterproof top of the bag, we ran into some rain a few times, and the waterproof top kept my stuff nice and dry. I had quite a few compliments on my bag in a few different places, and I personally love the style of it (I bought the red and black colorway). I normally never review products online but I felt like I was impressed enough with this pack to leave a good review. (I also convinced one of my co workers to buy this same pack for their upcoming trip through Italy)

    Great Purchase

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought the size large duffel a few months back and it has been awesome. The side pocket is roomy, I can fit a pair of shoes in it. The inside mesh pocket is great for separating small items. The back pack straps are by far the best part. They make it really comfortable to carry. The material is pretty rugged, zippers feel solid, and its not to heavy at all. Highly recommended over the more expensive duffels out there.

Nice but not what I was looking for

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I had bought this & the Patagoia 45L Black Hole looking for a new travel bag.
The Marmot bag (medium) was much bigger than I was expecting. I was thinking it would be more the size and shape of the Patagonia 45L Black Hole or my old 45L Eddie Bauer duffel. The Marmot (M) definitely holds a lot while being small enough to be a "carry on" on an airplane. I like that the backpack straps can be "tied" together to act as a shoulder strap.
I will be returning this though because: 1) the material of the bag was too plastic-y for my taste. 2) the shape of the bag on the inside was odd ... not rectangular .... more round ? I'm not sure how to describe it 3) it has less padding at the bottom than the Patagonia & my EB duffel. Also I find the solid (non-mesh) attached zipper pouch un-useful for my needs.
It IS a nice bag, just not what I was looking for.

High Quality, Heavy Duty bag for the $$$

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag is super touch but still light weight. I got the medium size which is perfect for a carry on that can still fit under the seat of a plain. It holds all the clothes that I need for work trips and some. it can be carried like a duffle or backpack which is a great option when hustling through airports. I got the matching compact hauler that works great for my toiletries. Love the bag.

    Excellent duffel

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This review is for the prior version of the Large duffel, not the current one: i am a big fan of Patagonia's black hole series, but this bag is amazing in both function and style for its value. First, I love that it comes with its own carry bag. I don't know about you all, but I find it impossible to refold the Patagonia black hole duffel back into its own zippered pocket. Second, the side pocket is roomy and such an important feature to have. Last, the backpack straps are not uncomfortable and sit well on me even when fully packed (I'm 5'3"). I just returned from a 2 week trip from Asia and was so pleased with this bag (had to check the bag due to size, but was flying business so size/weight not a problem). I also have the medium size, which I have yet to use, but am looking forward to doing so.

    Ready for Europe!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought this bag for an upcoming Europe trip, and am already singing its praises after a few domestic airport trips. Conversion from duffel to backpack makes it ready for just about anything.

    Durable Duffel with Great Features

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

With all the great options as far as durable and weather resistant duffel bags, it can be difficult to make a choice. I have similar duffels from other brands and what I can say is I love my Marmot Long Haulers. I bought a few in different sizes because I loved the first one I bought so much. I was initially just looking for a smaller duffel that I could keep in my car to hold any active clothes, shoes, etc. that I would need for the day. Whether it was trail running, climbing or mountain biking, I wanted something to hold those active clothes and shoes (possibly smelly haha), instead of everything just being thrown in my car. I ordered the Small size (38L) and it is a perfect size! One thing I like about these duffels compared to others is the outside pocket on the top of the duffel (when wearing it like a backpack). This is a good size to hold a pair of shoes, especially if they are muddy/wet as it is separate from the main compartment. I have size 12 feet and sometimes I can't close the zipper over my shoes when I put them in that top pocket, but with the larger sizes I don't have this problem. Just with the Small size.
I just used the Large size duffel (75L) to travel to Portland for some ski mountaineering on Mount Hood. I was able to fit everything I needed for the trip, except for a couple ice axes and some avy gear which I just threw in with my skis in my ski bag.
Let me know if you have any questions at all : )

    Great Upgrade from Last Year

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave this to my boyfriend who has the same bag from several years ago. He loves the upgraded straps (the attachment points in prior years model allowed the straps to easily become disconnected from the bag, especially as you slung it over your shoulder) as well as the external side pocket and internal storage pockets. Perfect for a weekend getaway or a carryon. He has the medium (50L)

    What I expected

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It's everything it said it was. I got the medium which is great for taking to the gym and disc golfing. If it had a complimentary end pocket on the other side to the singular one it currently has I would give it 5 stars.

    Great water proofish duffle

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Throw this thing in the back of my truck in a rain storm and everything inside stayed dry. This was a great bag for the price and holds all of the essentials nicely. Love it!

    Smaller than expected

I love this duffle. I ordered a medium and a large because I thought I was in between sizes but boy was the medium tiny. I’m sticking with the large but do know the run small. I love the backpack feature (though not the most comfortable backpack) and the cinch straps (which are only available on L and XL models). Perfect travel bag to get your gear to basecamp.

Just as good as TNF and Patagonia

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Most people go with the TNF and Patagonia duffel bags but you should not leave this one out. It's just as good and maybe better. It has backpack straps just like the others and also POCKETS, which the Patagonia is lacking. I have not used it much so I'm not sure how it will hold up to the elements but it looks like it should work great. But this bag VS others if you want pockets and you want to remain a rectangular shape.

      Favorite long weekend duffel

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought the medium size and it's a perfect two to five day duffel for any kind of travel. It fits comfortably in the overhead bins but is sturdy enough to be checked in as well. The top and sides are really durable and will take a real beating if needed and the interior is laid out for maximum flexibility. The convertable backpack straps have come in handy on all my snowboard trips navigating through airports. The only gripe I have is the exterior bottom of the duffel is not as beefy as the top and I am not sure how long, if at all, it will stay waterproof.

      Great travel bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I ordered two of these for casual travel. I was hesitant between this bag and the Patagonia black hole and decided on this one, I'm glad I did. It is great quality and very spacious, I may purchase another.

      Unanswered Question

The bottom is the same waterproof and durable as the top and sides of the bag?

      Unanswered Question

What is the true number of liters of the small? I've checked around online and mostly see that it's 35L in size. That's what Marmot's website says.

Looks like a newer version has been released with external compression straps and with two side pockets (finally!). What is the length of the side pocket? Wide enough to fit a pair of running shoes? Thanks.

      Unanswered Question

The photos only show compression straps on the bags of some colours. I'm assuming this is simply because some photos are of medium bags while others are of large or extra-large?
I'm interested in the large and extra-large. Do they all have compression straps?
