Why We Like The Mammut Ultimate VII SO Hooded Jacket

Face the rapidly changing shoulder-season weather with the Mammut Men's Ultimate VII SO Hooded Jacket, and be ready to work hard when the chilly wind interrupts the otherwise-serene bouldering sesh. This softshell has GORE INFINIUM to keep the gusts at bay and protect from any light precipitation that may blow in. The polyester lining sits softly against the skin and has a 3D structure to help it wick away any perspiration it encounters, reducing post-crux chills. A thoughtful hood with a clean closure and reinforced peak also aids weather resistance. And underarm vents, plus a convenient two-way front zipper, prevent cool air from ruining our climb.

Shell for Iditarod Trail Trek

The Mammut Ultimate VI SO jacket was an excellent layer for high output activity in cold dry conditions. The jacket itself provides very little insulation and high wind-resistance which makes it perfect as an outer shell for endurance sports where layering techniques are used to limit sweating in very cold environments. Zips from the pit to the bottom of the jacket work excellent to improve ventilation when needed and you don't want to remove the jacket. I used this jacket for 350 miles or 22 continuous days. The only negative I found, the bottom zips on the sides sometimes creep up when wearing a harness/backpack.

Good materials, solid construction, roomier fit

Recently gave this item a spin to replace another Mammut softshell jacket that had performed really well at just about everything. Was looking for a solid spring/fall jacket that can handle wind and cool weather. This one has a bit thicker softshell material, and definitely stays warmer in the wind than the one it replaces. Construction feels robust overall, and it's quite comfortable. The only complaints I have are that the fit is a little roomier -- previous jacket was more of a slim fit European size--, and the pit zips that run the full length of the jacket are a little funny and not super useful. The dark blue color is consistent across the fabric panels and it goes super well with Khaki / Tan pants. If you're more of a medium build and looking for something to keep the wind out, it's a good article.

Light, highly breathable

Not a ton of insulation to be had but great for highly aerobic activities. Side zippers can creep open. Prefer pit zips. Pockets are well thought -out. Breathes great.

It's Everything I Need

The jacket is durable, breathable, fairly lightweight and allows for great range of motion. I use it for ice climbing in the Adirondacks where temperatures can plunge - I wear it as my outermost layer on all but the coldest days. The only feature I could do without is the side zipper - I never get warm enough where I need so much ventilation but it may be a more useful feature in a different climate. Hood allows for good helmet fit underneath.

The stretch and fit were great.

It was a very good jacket. If the hood could be removed and reattach when needed would have given it a higher score.

Great soft shell

I use this for skiing. Stops wind, I treated it with aditional DWR and it is really great for windy cool days. I also have the pants and this kit really works for me most days. When it's really storming or deep pow I go for the hard shell Goretex, but this is my preference.
