I have scoured the earth for a walking shoe that I like. I prefer a really firm midsole that rules out virtually al l running shoes. However, I wanted the running shoe style rather than something closer to a casual shoe. Trail runners were no better and I tried the best - Saloman, Saleway, Vasque, you name it. I then discovered approach shoes and gave several a try including Vasque Grand Traverse and similar shoes. I also wanted to keep the cost around $100 which eliminated a lot of shoes in this category. The Mammut Low Hueco works very well for me. The midsole is very firm but the shoe as a whole is light weight and styled like a sneaker or running shoe. It gives great support and that is key as I am 6'3 and 225#. It is very comfortable to wear and although the upper is all leather, it is not a suffocatingly hot shoe. The only two minor issues is that the shoe runs a little small, but that seems true of all approach shoes. It also looks a little odd and is not very attractive but that does not matter to me. The Mammut Wall Approach shoe looks better but outside my budget at $125. The Mammut Hueco is a great shoe. Give it a try.

fine footwear!
just got these, out of the box they fit great. Have a pretty middle of the road type foot and no problems with these. The Michelin tread is sticky and used on a hike but on a rock staircase I encountered the grip felt climbing shoe sticky. probably will not use these as a real approach shoe as i wanted something black and understated for work and travel. It's all I've been wearing so may surprise myself and use more often for more endeavors.

Hey Matthew! This does not have a waterproof membrane or liner on it, so it will not be waterproof!
