    Keep dry year 'round.

The transition months of spring and fall are uncertain times when it comes to temperature, but at the least, they're guaranteed to be wet and windy. The Louis Garneau Modesto Jacket 2's lightweight, breathable design is ideal for variable weather. Both wind and water resistant, the Modesto is cool enough to zip over any kit in the spring, winter, or fall.

The Louis Garneau Modesto Jacket 2 is made from a blend of Garneau's Diamond Air and Light Mesh Airdry fabrics. Used for the outer-layer due to its tear-resistant diamond-pattern construction, the Diamond Air fabric is both lightweight and breathable. Additionally, this material aids in the repelling of wind and water. The Modesto's inner lining uses a large, open-celled mesh knit that keeps a consistent, cool temperature by transferring moisture to the quick drying Diamond Air surface layer. Together, they offer a lightweight design that won't overheat in the unpredictable temperatures of the transitional months. The Modesto Jacket 2 also features elastic grippers at the cuffs and hem to ensure a no-slip fit that won't shift under load. For storage, Garneau included a zip and flap rear pocket, and a 'motivation pocket' for your MP3 player.

The Louis Garneau Modesto Jacket 2 is available in sizes X-Small through XX-Large, and in the colors Black/red, Bright Yellow, Ginger, and White.

Good, light, but not that waterproof

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 154lbs

Very light jacket that fits perfectly as specified. I've used it a few times, one of them with a little drizzle and it worked perfectly, however, another day it was soaking wet after 20 minutes of heavy rain. Definitely recommend it for light rain, not if you're not sure it won't rain for a long period of time.

    Excellent road jacket

Size & weight of jacket as expected. Sheds wind (i have not used it in rain yet.) Works great in modest cool temps (F40s & 50s) & folds up small as day grows warmer. I just needed to get used to Euro zipper pull on "wrong" side of jacket. Hi viz is great on road.

Good windbreaker; Buy 1 size up

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Sizing was a bit tough, after reading the reviews, I ordered an XL to put my 5'7, 215 lb frame into. I normally buy L sized clothes, so this runs ~1 size small; it is mainly smaller in lower half of jacket. Shoulders and arms are comfortably loose.
Have used on several 30-60 minute rides on 50-65 deg F days; does a nice job with wind, not much for warmth. A warmth layer underneath on cold days a must; I only used a long sleeved T.
My daughter, 5'5" and ~110 lb, fits nicely in a S; she is typically a W size 2. Glad we have them, not perfect, but functional.

    I'm disappointed

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I did not find that this jacket provided much warmth or wind protection at all. The material is very thin. Also the fit is quite odd. It's very loose above the waist, which just creates a pocket of fabric at the mid section. Not good in form or function. I wanted to like it, but in the end, really did not.

    Does a great job

    Fit's me true to size.
Keeps the wind and rain off me.
Loose enough for me to layer underneath.
    Would purchase again.

    slightly looser fit, great jacket

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 210lbs

really like the fit compared to most roady stuff, but it is slightly large to get it to fit in a jersey pocket. doable but not great . I usually wear a L but got this in an XL and like the looser fit

    Inexpensive and does the job

Have only used it on fall rides, fits well stashed in a jersey pocket or mtb backpack ready to be used on the descents. It also looks great, almost good enough to wear off the bike!

This jacket breathes really well. I have worn it over a LS jersey and it cuts the cool wind but didn't overheat me on the climbs. I just lowered the zipper a few inches as the temp rose (about 10 degrees) but it breathed so well I never felt like I had to take it off. It did not give me that clammy feeling underneath that some of my older jackets have. I use it off road, it's a bit too flappy for the road I think. Overall I'm pleased so far.

    Great lightweight jacket

LG Modesto is perfect jacket for cool(mid 30s to 50s) early morning spring/fall rides which transition to warmer temperature as morning progress to afternoon. It's comfortable when layered with long sleeve jersey even in windy condition. Louis Garneau's jersey and jacket runs big for me. I wear mostly medium but have to get a small for this jacket as well as a LG long sleeve jersey I purchased.

I have used the jacket for temps in the 40-60 degree range, and it works excellently. Never had a windbreaker that was this soft. I always get the bright yellow or green, but this yellow is actually quite nice looking. I would wear it anywhere, but I want to dedicate it to cycling use because it works so well. As for fit I am a medium and bought the large. The size chart is correct but I wanted to allow for layering. It think this jacket probably has a range (wind chill included) of 30 degrees, so I am very happy with my acquisition.

    Great light jacket

Great jacket for spring, fall, and cool summer mornings. Not too heavy, and helps keep the wind out. Easily fits in jersey pockets when the temperature warms up later.

Bright and perfect for the road

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought this for my husband when we're road cycling. The color is WOW yellow - nice and bright for the drivers who claim to NEVER see cyclists on the road - they have no excuse now! The material is great against the skin (yes I've borrowed it) and it's easy to wash.

Husband wears a size XL and ordered this in same - fit is true to size (6'2")

    Great Team Jacket

Just recieved our 6 jackets for our team. They fit true to form if you use the sizing chart with a little wiggle room for movement on the ride or run. The material is great, fit is comfortable, style is awesome looking. We had our team logo printed on the front and back making this a great incliment weather jacket. The price was unbeatable which was compared to hundreds of other sites. Ordered and arrived with in two days...amazing, just in time for the next triathlon! Thank you Back Country for great products, great prices and fast shipping.

It would depend on the activity in which you plan on using the jacket, but this description of the garment should adequately answer your question :

Basically, I think you would copacetic using this jacket in 40 degree weather, but everyone's bodies are different, so it's hard to say for certain.

For forty degrees, I would layer a 60% cotton short sleeve tee, thin polyester long sleeve tee, and thin wool sweater. If it were windy I would add a lightweight denim shirt over the sweater. The last layer under the jacket should add neck coverage.
