Akyra GTX Shoe

Knock out mileage on rugged trails all season long in your La Sportiva Women's Akyra GTX Trail Running Shoe. A tough trail shoe for high alpine traverses and soggy fall training runs, the Akyra GTX has got you covered. La Sportiva's Impact Brake System uses opposite slanting lugs to increase your braking power when you need to scrub speed on the downhill, and FriXion Trail Rocker 2 rubber soles improve your traction on uneven terrain.

Great trail shoe but runs very small

I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
5' 3"

I have purchased and worn out 3 pairs of these shoes over the last few years. They have great tread and are very supportive, even without custom arch supports. My first 2 pairs were 38.5 ( I am typically a 7.5 US) and fit great. The third pair I purchased (also 38.5) online was too small but I can wear with very thin socks. I just purchased a 39.0 and it still is too small so I am going to size it up to a 39.5. BTW, none of my other shoes are too small and I still measure 7.5 US, so there has been some change at the factory.

Love these hiking shoes!

I'm very particular when it comes to shoes. I have returned a lot of shoes in my lifetime. My good friend lives in Alaska and I asked her for a vegan waterproof hiking shoe recommendation. She raved about the Akyra so I ordered these along with another pair (different brand) for comparison. I'd never owned a GTX shoe before. Even though I liked both pairs and preferred the color of the others, I thought these were more comfortable and reluctantly returned the other pair. I made the right choice. The Akyra have not disappointed! I've hiked many times in them and they give me great traction and protection from the terrain. I live in Oregon and have stood in some moderately deep puddles at waterfalls to test them and my feet stayed bone dry. My feet somehow don't get hot in them either! Recently I've been dealing with flexor tendinitis in my right foot (to the point limping at times) and switched to a support sneaker at the suggestion of my chiropractor (vs my usual neutral). I went on a 7+ mile hike yesterday with friends and was a little nervous about how my foot would hold up. The Akyra GTX provided great support and my foot issue didn't flare up at all during the hike. These are great hiking shoes. I can't recommend them highly enough.

La Sportiva Akyra Women's shoe

I've used it several times
Size Bought:
5' 8"

I love Sportiva hikers and that's all I wear to hike in the mountains. I like the Gortex to keep my feet warm and dry and these offer that. They are very supportive and grippy on the rock. I had another pair 39.5, but they felt too tight descending and I find that the 40.5 for me who is always a 8.5 fits much better as maybe they run a bit small. Great shoe and nice esthetics to boot!

Great fit for narrow feet

I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
5' 6"

I have a hard time fitting shoes properly (countless REI store visits), but these fit like a glove! La sportiva shoes are great for narrow feet, and I don't feel any heel slippage or toes touching the front when I go downhill. I've tried other la sportiva hiking shoes like the Stream, but couldn't get the fit right with heel slippage. I find La sportiva shoes to have a good amount of volume (good for reducing impact) which can cause that weird off-balance feel at times. These shoes have volume but I find the balance issue minimal and un-noticeable. I've had the non-gtx version for 2 years now and love them. Got the gtx version to round out those rainy day hikes. I'm a size 6 to 6.5 in street shoes (6.5 in Nikes) and the 37.5 was a perfect fit. I use it primarily for approaches for climbing (rocky terrain, muddy trails) and they're grippy and great.

Used for Spartan Races, Hiking, and Rivers

I bought this model 2 years ago for my first Obstacle Race (Spartan Race) since it was recommended to wear trail running shoes. They performed amazing, great grip on every slippery road or obstacle. They were completely covered in mud. I rinsed them to remove the bulk of the mud and threw them in the washing machine. Brand new! No one could tell what they been up to. I used them later for more obstacle races, different mountain and rainforest hikes. Additionally, I use them for when I hike to rivers and caves and go in the water with them for extra protection on my feet. They perform excellent. They are not too heavy and they surely are sturdy. Each time I get them dirty I throw them in the washing machine and they look brand new after. Idk if it's recommended to wash them that way but it works for me. This is one of my most intelligent purchases and I know the shoe will last me many more adventures. I usually wear a 7 or 7.5 size, in closed shoes and mine is a 7 US size.

I've used this shoe for several months after hip surgery which gave me good stability and also kept me from limping a bit as the new joint was 1/4" longer. It's the best shoe I've worn and will reorder another pair.

Great hiking/running shoe

Light weight, roomy toe box. Very comfortable. Excellent traction when ascending/descending trails.
