Why We Like The Redwing 36L Backpack

The Redwing Range of backpacks consist of Kelty's reliable, versatile trekking packs, and the Redwing 36L Backpack is the second-smallest in that series. Best-suited for daylong treks or even weekenders if you're a smart packer, the Redwing gets an update this year with an advanced perimeter frame made for spring steel, and the AMP-Flow ventilated back panel excels at wiping the sweat off your pack. The Redwing is also host to a clever zippered closure that helps you pack carefully from the top and then dump everything out from the front when it's time to unpack. The large side pockets have pass-through holes to fasten trekking and fishing poles securely.

Got a full set of overnight gear in this

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Nice quality bag. Its advertised as a day pack but if you get the right gear you can fit a full set of overnight camping gear and food for a one night trip. No need to buy hyperlight for low weight backpacking, this kelty bag is low weight and a great low price! I fit an MSR elixir 1p tent and a Nemo 20° bag in this pack. If you buy a trekking pole tent and a quilt it would fit even better.

Good Concept, But Limited Function

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Probably a great pack for day hikes, and possibly an overnight, but too many design flaws that hinder functionality... - Main compartment has steep taper that limits use of bottom of pack - Inside sleeve only useful for hydration bladder; will not work with laptop - Front pocket is just a pouch with an opening just big enough for hand to pass through; no organization ability - Side zipper pockets are either too small or too large - Bottom side pouches will only work with small bottles, or as ?stop? for something like trekking poles; quart/liter canteen or bottle will fit, but side pockets above interfere with access - Bungee cord on front will catch easily on external objects (branches, car seat lever, etc) So, what?s good about it...? Lightweight with good padding and fabrics; good fit to the back for those with large arm movement. The bottom line is that it will likely be best only for those using a hydration bladder, and gear for an overnight outdoors, but definitely not suited for those who are looking for a versatile pack that can work with City to Trail use.
