Why We Like The K2 Thraxis Snowboard Boot

K2's stiff, freeride-focused Thraxis Snowboard Boot is a best-in-class beast, built for powder days in and out of the resort. Three times the custom fit comes from the external Zonal BOA Fit System dials and the internal K2 Conda liner lacing system, securing our feet and eliminating heel lift on our deepest carves. K2's heat-moldable Intuition Pro Foam 3D liner provides excellent comfort and support through internal and external J bars, heat-reflective technology, and anti-odor mesh. And underfoot, EVA and Harshmellow tech absorb chatter and impact, and recycled Vibram rubber provides unbeatable traction from the parking lot to the peak.

Disappointed with build quality

Disappointed with the build quality of these boots. I have a pair of Salomon Malamutes that I’ve put over 100 days on, and they’re still in remarkably good shape. Still extremely stiff, and just the smallest amount of cosmetic stitching damage on the outside. My Thraxis boots on the other hand were falling apart by day 50. They’re described as 10/10 stiffness, but I would say they are more like 8/10s. My Malamutes are significantly stiffer. The Thraxis might have been 10s when I started using them, I don’t quite remember, but they softened up very quickly. However, I still very much like the fit and the way they ride, and because they’re a bit softer, I’ve used them as my park boots. The 3 boas do work very well for a tight fit, although the heel lock boa tends to make my foot go numb if I really crank it, but of course that’s not a huge issue as you can just dial it back a bit. But the build quality is much lower than my Malamutes. After awhile, the boot started folding inward and creasing, creating a fold that stabs me in the medial malleolus (google tells me that’s the name of the big bump on the inner side of your ankle). The pain from this was so severe that continuing to wear the boots without modification wasn’t an option, so I’ve had to try duct taping socks and then foam on the outside of my liner to protect my ankle from being cut up by this ridge/fold. This has never been an issue with previous boots I’ve had, and I’m dissatisfied with how much of a problem this has been and how quickly it became an issue. I’ll be getting my next boots from someone else.
