High-altitude protection.

Whether you're crossing a crevasse-covered glacier in AK or ski mountaineering somewhere in the lower 48, Julbo's Tensing Sunglasses with Spectron 4 Lenses offer the protection your eyes need when you're on the snow. These glacier glasses offer wrap-around protection against glacial glare and feature Julbo's Spectron 4 polycarbonate lenses, making them ideal for the intensely bright conditions you'll encounter during the spring mountaineering season. On top of that, the Tensings feature large side vents to keep the lenses free of fog when you lose track of your mouth-breathing ways during the ascent.

Amazing Glacier Glasses

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I cannot rave enough about these glasses. I bought them because I didn't feel like shelling out $100.00+ USD for traditional glacier glasses for a recent trip to Ecuador (you know, that place really freakin' close to the sun). I used these puppies on every climb while there (even during acclimatization hikes on lower peaks). It's like not even having a lens in front of your eye.

The wrap-around coverage and rubberized padding around the eyes and sockets makes these glasses very comfortable to wear. The vented peripheral shields keep light out while allowing air in.

I would agree with two complaints: [1] I experienced some fogging when the top of the glasses was covered by a baseball hat or beanie (of the size that fits under a climbing helmet); [2] some adjustment capability would be nice as the fit is a little loose.

None of these complaints prevent me from giving these glasses a five-star rating.

Amazing Glacier Glasses

Great Coverage

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: One Size Fits Most

The Julbo Tensings provide great coverage while still allowing adequate airflow to prevent fogging. The fit is appropriate for a medium to large face. They are large enough to overwhelm smaller faces. The temples are rigid enough to keep the glasses in place during activity, but still provide a comfortable fit. The rubberized nose piece is really effective at keeping the glasses where they belong. I appreciate that the temples don't collapse far enough to touch the lenses while they are stored in my pocket or pack.

I like these glasses well enough. I agree with the 'tech specs' comment that it fits a medium to large face -- I'm medium in most everything in life and felt like these were just a bit too big. On that point, I would have appreciated some way to increase the tension of the ear pieces around my head. The temple pieces bend (and don't seem inclined to break) but they don't particularly change shape. The eye coverage is good, and I had only minimal fogging during very high output.
