Very comfortable well made helmet

Extremely well made very comfortable with a few great features like removable sweat bands, and easily adjustable straps that really make it well thought out and enjoyable to wear. The ratcheting fit system works like a charm and I can easily adjust the size depending on the weather to fit thin beanie for the cold mornings of northern Washington. The spherical system is interesting and thankfully I haven’t needed to use it.

VT Number One Rated Bicycle Helmet

There's one reason why I love this helmet. It is the number one rated bicycle helmet from Virginia Tech. VT's impact tests evaluate a helmet's ability to reduce linear acceleration and rotational velocity of the head resulting from a range of head impacts a cyclist might experience. Translation = you only have one brain so take care of it. This is my second AERIES helmet (no crash involved) because I love the new colors.

Superb Helmet

I"ve had this helmet now for a month of road biking. First - I"m a sweaty dude. There is a steady stream of sweat rivulets flying of my vapor trail as I cycle on any ride. With that background, a few comments in key areas: Price: ouch. It's high. But.. a hospital bill and a significant head injury is much much higher. I trust the VT helmet ratings, and the technology here makes sense. It's an investment. Cooling: superb. Lots of airflow through this helmet. It's got a very streamlined design, thus no mushroom effect. This design likely opens up the airflow quite a bit. Looks: see cooling comments. Looks super. Not a massive helmet to make me look like more of a doofus than I already am. Aero: Hard to say. But really, doesn't make that much difference unless you're going to shut down the airflow to go full-on aero. Sweat Management: school's still out on this one. For sure, it's not worse than others.. the question is whether the gutter sweat management headband really is up to the challenge of me. Based on a month of riding, I can say it probably helps, and again doesn't make things worse. And hey, if sweat reduction is less on the lenses of my sunglasses then there is crash reduction... see notes above about crash head injury investment. What I can say for sure though is that "at least someone is trying..." to help us sweaty guys out. Thanks! Sunglasses management: key. I read one review where someone was ripping on that. No... the purposeful sunglass arms slots is at least a nod to trying to make something work instead of a random possibility that it'll hold my glasses. I have oakleys and I also have an Italian brand. Both work well. And really, this is more a function of the flexibility of the glasses arms and the width of the glasses more than it is of helmet design. Regardless, thumbs up in this category. Summary: double thumbs up as long as you can tolerate the investment. My last crash co-pays medical were in excess of 3k, so ya - easy investment for me. Sizing: true to size for sure. Follow measuring process for sizing and you'll be fine. Last comment : Love the blue color!

My Favorite Brain Bucket

I’ll start by saying I don’t believe in using words like perfect, always or never. Absolutes are very hard to live up to. That in mind, this is a terrific helmet and I am very happy to have it. In September 2022 I was hit by a car while riding and having a good helmet saved my skull, if not my life. Full disclosure, that was a POC Ventral SPIN and I immediately bought a new one. That said, while I like the POC it is bulky and does not do a great job of sweat management. These are two areas where the Giro Aries stands out. Fit is very slim to the head and the padding in the front does far better at absorbing and/or redirecting sweat so it doesn’t drip on glasses. The fit adjustability of the Giro is also absolutely next level. The adjustment system allows you to slide forward and back (moving the dial up or down the back of your head) and also has horizontal adjustment. This adjustability means you can cradle your noggin exactly how you want, and make sure the plastic arms are well out of the way from the temple pieces of your sunglasses. The real cherry on top for me is one I hope to never test - the safety. Despite being crazy light, the Giro Aries is the top scoring helmet that Virginia Tech has ever tested. Period. This one checks all the boxes for me - safety, style, comfort, air flow. This is the best helmet available in my opinion. The only slight complaint is the salt buildup that accumulates on the chinstraps, but candidly I have yet to find a helmet where this is avoided. From a size perspective, my body dimensions don’t mean anything so I haven’t included. That in mind, if you measure your head per Giro’s instructions the fit will be dead on accurate.

My new favorite helmet?

Just got this and wanted to write a quick review about the sizing. But first, I've had many helmets over the decades of riding, and am pretty confident that this is the best of all of them. It is very comfortable to wear - I especially like the soft padding across the forehead where some other helmets had high spots that would leave marks. The helmet looks great. And the safety features and ratings make me feel safer. I'll have to wait for warmer weather to see how the cooling works, but the venting is great, so no worries there. But I did have an issue with the sizing (which Competitive Cyclist fixed with a quick replacement). My head measures 23.25", exactly the break point between M and L sizes according to the chart. But when I tried the M it actually hurt to wear and left deep marks in my forehead, and my head was so tightly squeezed against the inner foam in the back that the adjustment did nothing and I couldn't even get it on when I wore a thin bike cap. The L fits well. People say that if you are in between helmet sizes you should probably choose the smaller size, but for me with this helmet the larger size was better.
