Know what's funny? Getting first tracks because all your buddies stopped four times to skin up and then de-skin on the rolling terrain that takes you in to your line. Beating the hordes up low-angle hills is what the G3 Stinger 78 XCD Ski is all about. The base features G3's XCD positive grip pattern, a fishscale design that makes skins unnecessary on mellow terrain without slowing you down on the descent, so you can spend more time skiing and less fussing with gear. It's lighter than a feather, too, at just 5.5 pounds per pair, but still stiff enough to ski on the way down whether you mount it up with Nordic touring, tele, or tech bindings. G3's Corelight poplar and paulownia core makes the Stinger easy to pull uphill, and a triaxial fiberglass sandwich and ABS sidewalls keeps it stiff enough to handle variable snow on the way down, even though the Stinger's 78mm waist is no powder-surfing monster. That said, it does have an early rise tip to help you make short work of freshies, and G3 finished it off with Rockwell C48 steel edges to help on sidehill climbs and uneven descents.
