From the cirque to the skintrack, the Exped Serac 25L Backpack provides adaptive and versatile storage whether you're backcountry touring, alpine climbing, or doing a little bit of both. The durable face fabric withstands brushes against rough, snowy features or granite rock alike, while the TPU coating offers protection from light moisture and precipitation. A removable PE foam board allows an element of customization (should you be counting the ounces) and doubles as a seat should you need to take ten and enjoy the view or swap out crampons. Additionally, the Serac features a roll-top closure and waist belt for a stabilized, cinched-down load, yet the main compartment can be easily accessed from a side entry point. The generous front pocket easily accommodates touring necessities (such as skins or shovel and probe), and the daisy chain, as well as multiple attachment points, ensure that you're able to attach your skis with ease.

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This is a great backpack--while I haven't used it for ski touring, I've been using it every day biking around town (it's pretty much waterproof and sizes up and down to nicely fit/handle just my laptop & a few books and can also handle a rainjacket + climbing shoes + groceries fairly comfortably), for a few day hikes, and plan to taking climbing with me one the weather has improved. It fits close to your back so it's good for biking and will be good for climbing/skiing, but if you're looking for something purely for hiking, there's no ventilation between the pack & your back. Additionally, while it carries fairly comfortably, it's not made for hiking as the primary purpose--so the waist belt is stripped down and most of the weight of the bag will rest on your shoulders. Overall, this is the perfect bag that I was looking for: it's lightweight, simple, waterproof (or, nearly), and is good for daily biking, climbing, and the occasional hike.
