Focusing solely on the fit of the Bec de Rosses shell pants … 5 ft 11in (180cm), 173lbs (77-79 kg), 33in waist. Purchased: Medium. Right off the bat, I could use an extra inch in the waist. Don’t get me wrong, they fit perfectly. It’s the “perfect” part I’d like to fudge a little. I’m right at the very limit of who these pants will fit. Size up if you have a belly. Without insulated knickers, the waist is perfect, providing an extra two inches of space. Pretty sure the waist is a hard 35”. With insulated knickers (which I wear frequently), I lose an inch. With the bib zipped in, I can accommodate my upper body base layers, but the waist is snug. Not tight, snug. The length is perfect—without ski boots on, the length is such that standing upright, the pant length falls just below my heel, meaning the leg hem falls under my heel (I can stand on it). That’s perfect for boots and allows plenty of room to move. The butt (seat) and legs of these pants have lots of room. By contrast, the fit of the BdR large pants seemed to add four inches everywhere. Standing upright, with the legs fully extended, I could stand with almost my entire foot still inside the pants. The waist was massive. For me, the large was circus-tent baggy. Quality and attention to detail in this shell pants is off-the-charts good.
