    Party laps ahead.

When we see a Dakine Limited Edition Pickup Pad, it's hard for us to see anything other than endless party laps ahead. With a burly construction from high-denier polyester and 3/4-inch foam to protect your ride from rough bumps on the way up to the top of your shuttle, the Pickup Pad is ready to go for lap after lap of on-dirt adrenaline. With quick-and secure transport for up to seven bikes, the Pickup Pad is the perfect companion to add to your crew. It features individual bike anchor straps to hold your steed in place (5 for small, 7 on a large), and has three web-cinch straps that secure the pad to your tailgate to give you peace of mind when you're bouncing up a rowdy dirt road. This particular model is ideal for traditional tailgates, and features an access flap for tailgate handles, so you can still use your full truck bed when you're not loaded up with bikes.

    • Protect your tailgate and your ride when packing in laps
    • Burly 1000D nylon holds up to rough frames and abrasion
    • Soak up chatter with 3/4-inch padding
    • Small can carry up to 5 bikes, large can carry 7
    • Equipped with straps for securing steeds in place
    • Item #DAK01BA

    Great Pad

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pad is durable and makes shuttle laps easy and efficient. It secures the bikes on super well and is easy to put on and take off. The flap on the cover doesn't line up exactly with the tailgate latch on a Sierra but the size large fits well otherwise! Overall awesome product to help keep bikes in place and ensure you aren't scratching up your new truck.

    Dakine pad round 2

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I had the camo version of this that is more like a canvas material and it tore easily. This version is more durable so far!

    Disappointing

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Although the pad seems to be decent quality, the fit is disappointing. I have a Nissan Frontier - the exterior of the tailgate is 21 inches tall (interior is 18 inches). The pad is only about 31 inches in height so there are several inches of the tailgate are uncovered. See picture.
Also, the flap for the tailgate does not line up.
    Two other minor issues I have;
    - The tailgate straps are 48 inches long - Why ??There is easily 18 inches of excess...
    - The pad was folded in half during shipment which appears to have stretched the vinyl (?) cover & when it is strapped on the tailgate, there are several creases.
I need it for a weekend trip, so I am going to keep it. If I had more time, I would look at other manufacturers pads.

    Disappointing

    Sick Pad

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This Dakine pad is so nice. It does everything you need while looking awesome in the process. Love the colorway, and it fits any full size truck perfectly in the Large size. Only downside is that it will cover up the reverse camera of most trucks because the handle opening doesn't match up perfectly with the handle. I would go with the Dakine DLX pad if you're looking to be able to still use your backup cam during the biking months: https://www.backcountry.com/dakine-pickup-pad-dlx?rr=t

    Great Tailgate Pad

Last season I used the RaceFace tailgate pad on my Tacoma and loved it. This year I bought a larger truck and needed a new pad so I decided to try out this one from Dakine. So far this pad has been great and I haven't noticed much of a difference from the RaceFace pad. I was a little skeptical that it would hold my bike in place as well, but so far its been doing the job. If you are looking to save some money, I would highly consider buying Dakine!

Does this type of product just pad/cover the tailgate? Does it hold up the bike in anyway? Do you use a kickstand to hold the bike standing?

Hey Maureen! So yes and yes! It does a variety of things. It does pad the tailgate, as well as the frame of the bike too. You lean the front wheel over the end of the bed, so that all the weight of the bike is put on the tailgate. Also, you put part of the frame through the loops on the pad as well, so your bike is more secure. All the weight of the bike should be in the tailgate of the truck, so its left standing just fine. Most high-end bikes don't come with kickstands, so its engineered to work without them. I included a picture too, to illustrate better what I am saying. I hope that helps a bit!
