UPF 50+ Light Arm Sleeves
While most arm coverings are designed to keep you warm, the UPF 50+ Light Arm Sleeves from Castelli can actually keep you cool too. They are rated at UPF 50+, however, Castelli claims that in laboratory tests, they actually blocked 99.8 percent of damaging UV rays. It uses a polyester base that's more effective than typical nylon at blocking UV rays while keeping you dry. Minimal seam construction prevents rubbing and double-sided silicone elastic at the openings ensure they stay in place throughout the ride. They also pack up extremely small so you can stash them into your jersey pocket when they're no longer needed for the day.

Love them so much, bought one in black and one in white. Got ride of two old sets of sleeves, that I finally got fed up using, because the sleeves would never stay up properly. I guess I kind of have normal to small arms. Size medium sleeve, if that makes a difference. Anyway the "grips" at the top of these sleeves are super tight. As it should be.

My husband loves these, uses them for running, golf, cycling and everything in between! Perfect for changing weather as an extra layer or for long hours in the sun.

Sun protection

I have had sun sleeves for a few years and the Castelli brand stay up more then some other brands. I have had bouts with squamous cell carcinoma and in Arizona we need all the UV protection we can get.

Great sun protection
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I used the arm sleeves for the first time today on a very sunny 95 degree day. I don't think my arms were any hotter than they would have been without the sleeves. It was a 6 hr ride so it was very convenient not having to re-apply sunscreen. The arm sleeves stayed up well. The material is quite lightweight, which is what I want, so I'm careful taking them on and off. I can see them stretching or ripping if they're pulled a lot. I initially bought medium size but they were too small. Large fits much better - form fitting but not constrictive. My forearms are 10 3/4" around. With my arm bent at a 90 degree angle but relaxed muscles, my biceps are 12" around.

Start off chilly and ride into the heat.

Have been using these instead of sunblock on longer rides in SoCal that start around 60dF and end around 80, along with the knee sleeves. It takes the chill of the early start and I don't notice them other than when I get the occasional cooling effect in a breeze once the air has warmed up. This was especially noticeable on a recent ride with a long climb in the sun and about 80 degrees where I would get that momentary cooling effect. I am a fan of these for longer rides that start early and transition into the heat. I bought XL in the arm sleeves and L in the knee sleeves, as I don't have pencil arms but the stretch is good and I think the L would work good for a more compressive fit on the arms.

stays in place, fits well, provides enough warmth, and protects the skin from the sun. it's perfect for those slightly chilly rides or when you're in between sun and cover. i would even consider wearing on a warm day to use for sun protection.
