Sorpasso 2 Bib Tight
Castelli knows what we want from our kits, with the desire for a summer-weight feel, compression where needed, stretch where we want it, and overall comfort that doesn’t feel bulky and restrict movement. Their engineers answer our requests with the Castelli Sorpasso 2 Bib Tights, which are there to get us through the cold months and those all-important winter base miles.
Starting at the base of construction, the Sorpasso 2 are carefully stitched together with panels of Castelli's compressive Thermoflex Core2 fabric and Thermoflex fabric for its stretchy and fleecy soft properties. Unchanged from previous years, Thermoflex 2 has a nylon outer layer with a hollow-core polyester inner layer that traps heat within to maintain warmth and insulation, all the while nylon and polyester work together for maximum moisture management, pulling perspiration away from your skin to dry quickly so you can stay comfortable and warmer. With exceptional moisture wicking paired with hollow core construction, the Sorpasso 2 is officially recommended for cool-to-cold rides from 41 to 53 degrees Fahrenheit; however, many of us who run hot in the saddle will wear them into the mid-30s.
The fabric sees few changes to the strategic panels that made up previous years' Sorpasso bibs, since it uses the same fabrics as before, but that isn't to say that nothing is different. The most notable change to the bibs occurred on the back. Increasing support, a lumbar band improves the fit and comfort in the saddle for increased support when you're grinding out long winter miles.
Smooth, seamless straps wrap over your shoulders comfortably, and their wide construction distributes pressure for a nearly unnoticeable fit under your jersey. Because the straps omit seams you'll be pleased to find zero chafing, even on long rides.
Your sit bones would thank you if they could for the luxurious Progetto X2 Air chamois with. With seamless fabric against your sensitive skin and exceptional moisture transfer that allows for airflow, you'll feel fresh and comfortable. Underneath the 4-way stretch fabric, you'll find multi-density padding with variable thickness and perforated comfort inserts to seal the deal with support where it's needed and breathability to boot.

I only got to wear mine 3-4 times before destroying them..... but I have to take all the blame for the damage. The great news is they protected me from anything more than minor scrapes. In terms of their intended purpose.... they have been amazing!! Super warm at 35 degrees, comfortable, flexible. Great at blocking the wind.... except where I tore a huge hole in them crashing. 🤦♂️ I will be buying another one momentarily. FYI THEY DO RUN SMALL. I am 5’7” 175lb. 31 waist. I needed the large.

i have been wearing these on ~2 hour rides, from temperatures between 0°C and ~10°C (~50°F). the chamois is solid and i don't even notice the tights; i never felt like i was cold or overheating. the straps are really tight putting them on, but once on the bike i don't notice them. like with all castelli products, measure yourself carefully and if you're in-between, definitely size up.

Great temperature comfort. Runs small so I got a larger size however both the jersey and bib tights were long. Probably won't buy another long sleeve or tights again.

Started and it was 36 degrees and ended close tk 55 degrees. Perfect for these bib tights. I agree, they fit small. But perfect for my build. The chamois held up and I had complete comfort during my entire ride.

Trying not to be repetitive but I also had several Castelli bibs and they were all size large. This one has shorter bib straps for sure. Leg length (inseam 32.5 in) is about right for me so I'll give it a try.

Love the bib - super comfy chamois but clearly need 1 or 2 size up. Size 32 in jeans and had to buy XXL for the right fit and still snug. Very comfortable in colder days - you barely feel it

Sorpasso Excels
- Fit:
- Runs small
I hesitated pulling the trigger on these due to reviewers' problems with fit. I have the previous generation Sorpasso tights and love them - great for temps down to low 40's - maybe to upper 30's. I can say the second generation size large fit the same as the first generation large so I'm very pleased with my purchase. Yes - you have to size up - I'm normally a medium - 5-11, 150 lb, slender with long legs (32 waist, 34 inseam jeans). I haven't ridden with the new yet (got at sale price for next cold season) but the fit, feel and quality are the same and so I expect they'll perform equally well. The dark steel blue color is actually a medium gray which is what I expected - looks good with my bike colors.

Great for 35-50 Degrees
- Familiarity:

Bought these at the start of lockdown to get me through the tail end of winter and was pleasantly surprised by how well they handled warmer weather in the high 40's and low 50's. I sized up based on other reviews and found these bibs to be very comfortable (I'm very lean), and love the soft lining and panel placement. FWIW I haven't ridden these in sub-40 temps, but given how well they handled early spring, they may not be the best choice when you get for the low 30's/freezing temps.

Returned

These were disappointing and I returned them: not enough insulation in front for sub 40, and the seat material pilled on me after about 5 rides.

The prior model Sorpasso was the ultimate bib tight. Figured I would get the new version in the same Castelli size (large) that I always wear. Sizing is very different than the size chart, or the prior model Sorpasso. Bottom is smaller, but works ok. However, the bib straps are extremely short; about 4" shorter than the prior model Sorpasso. Unfortunately, had to send these back.

I really like these thermo bibs. I’ve Used them 2 winters never been cold. I live in NYC so I ride all year round. If I ride below 40 F I wear a base layer. The pad is comfortable I’ve done 60 mile rides with them in 40-50 degree weather and no discomfort when done. They also do well with blocking the wind. I purchased a size bigger fit was perfect. Look at the size chart for your measurements. Will purchase a second pair.

The chamois is probably one of the most comfortable of any bibs that I own, tights or shorts. It's the type that you just forget is there, even for 3-4 hr rides. The warmth is good for me down to around 40F. I don't ride much at temps below that. I do wish there was a little more of the chamois up front to provide more warmth and wind blocking. As for the fit, they are pretty uncomfortable when standing before getting on the bike. At 6' 2", the straps on the XL are just barely long enough to get over my shoulders. Ends up squeezing me in the wrong places. Once on the bike, this is not really an issue.

I got these this fall in order to extend my riding season and stay off the indoor trainer. So far I've worn them in temps 35°-45°F and they are great! I don't think I'll have any problems riding with them into the high 20's. As far as fit goes you do need to size up at least one full size unless you already know your "Castelli size". I wear medium in most other brands and require a large in Castelli. The larges fit great on my 6'1" 165lbs body. Like others have mentioned, if you don't have low body fat in your belly area then these could be uncomfortable for you. The Progetto X2 Air chamois is great for as long of a ride as you would want to do in the cold.

If you are looking for something to keep you toasty during the winter months look no further. These bibs provide great insulation for the coldest temperatures that I dare ride in. I've worn these in the 20s and been just fine. You still get the great compression and fit in high quality bib shorts, combined with the insulation to keep you warm. That combined with the fantastic X2 chamois, and I was super comfy on my winter commutes. Like other reviews have stated you are going to need to size up a full size from what you normally wear. I went up to an XL, and I never need more than a Large normally. Once I got the sizing down, I have been happy with the fit and quality.

Bought size M knowing that I might need to have the straps altered. No problem. It was rather funny. At 5'8" with a 30" inseam, the leg part fit perfectly. However, I could not even attempt to stand straight. From an old, "donor" set of bibs, I had 9" added to the Castelli straps. Yes, that is NINE inches of additional strap length. With the strap issue resolved, I could finally try on the bibs just to discover that the pad is set 2" too far back. Great butt coverage but my man parts are left rubbing against the flatlock stitching. To add insult to injury, the Castelli pad is 2" SHORTER than the LG Level 4 pad. That means I have 3" - 4" of man parts off the pad.... I guess these bibs are not for me afterall

I'm 5'8" 160lb and a solid Medium in all clothing. 31" inseam, 32" waist. These run small, I sent for a Large and they are better, but still very snug above the hip. The material is meant to give compression, but I think they should have used plain Lycra for the part that needs to enclose the belly. If you are not super trim, order at least one size up. Even the straps were too short on the Med. and I'm not tall.

What others are saying about sizing is dead on. I bought a large, have an average length torso, and the straps are very tight. Additionally, after a fairly short period of time the stitching came undone on the chamois. These are pretty close in price to the cheapest Assos, but the quality is a long way off.

Runs very small in the bib straps. Sizing was fine in leg but way too tight in the torso.

Does the Sorpasso tight offer any water resistance? If not, what bib tights do you recommend for damp/wet conditions?
