Raddoppia 2 Black Out Jacket

There are few things the truly embody the joy of riding a bicycle more than rolling through beautiful farmland as giant snowflakes float through the bright, crisp air around you. Take in the views in the warm comfort, and cool black style of your Castelli Men's Raddoppia 2 Black Out Jacket, listen to the light crunch of fresh snow under your tires, and enjoy the blissfully muffled quiet and peace that marks the official changing of ride seasons.

People like to claim that other colors are the new black, but we'd argue that its just not possible to mimic the deep aesthetics of the hue. It's sleek and bold, yet understated. It can drift into the backdrop without distracting patterns and colors, or stand out in a sea of bright and flashy kits. What we're getting at is that we have an affinity for stealthy simplicity, and so we appreciate Castelli's approach to its Black Out line, which takes the same technology that's poured into its more colorful kits, and offers an understated approach. Black on black on black — no flashy logos, no bright colors, just pure style, finesse, and pieces that offer the utmost level of performance on the road.

The key to this jacket's ability to weather the cold is Castelli's use of GORE-TEX Infinium X-Fast thermal fabric, which offers warm protection against the elements of winter, total wind coverage, and water-shedding capabilities to let the snowflakes and showers roll off of you. This is partnered up with lighter Thermoflex fabric on the sides for a balance of warmth and breathability. Large stealthy reflective paneling and logo placement across the jacket adds aesthetic interest, without looking flashy in regular lighting, and impressive visibility to other road users in dreary, low-light conditions when headlights hit the jacket.

Castelli recommends this jacket for ideal warmth in temperatures ranging from 32-50 degrees Fahrenheit, but we'd happily pair it with a jersey and base layer in colder temperatures without any concerns.

Sleeves wayyy too long ??

I really wanted to like this jacket. As opposed to other reviewers here, I know to size up with Castelli. My initial impressions were great - the jacket seems really well made and the combination of the softshell outer shell paired with the soft fleece lining suggested it would perform to my specifications on cold rides. The body fit perfectly when I tried it on - good length in the back and around the chest, etc - but the sleeves were, like, 4 inches too long. There was a ton of extra fabric on the arms when I tried to push them up. I don't have exceptionally short arms, so I was very surprised by this. Considered taking to a tailor but ultimately sent back and exchanged.
