Coho XC Single Wheel Suspension Cargo Bike Trailer

Excellent All Purpose Cart

I've had my Burley Coho for a little over a month now. I like it very much! The reasons why: This area has a great deal of options for bikers; extensive multi-use trails, bike lanes, polite drivers for sharing sections of road, and kind pedestrians. The caveats are that the bike lanes are often narrow/paint only, the multi-use trails can occasionally be quite chaotic and busy, and there are ofen very narrow-set bollards, narrow entrace gates, and sharp L and Z bends to access sections of the trails. A small, agile cart that can get through anything my handlebars can fit through felt really important due to the potential chaos and narrowness of paths and passing. The Coho is amazing for this! I feel like I'm basically just biking like normal. The Coho also seems quite well designed, as far as I can tell. You can neatly fit in it a stack of large pizza boxes, along with a backpack to the front or back of the pizzas. There are many tie points if you've got an outsized or unusual load or are bundling things. The tie down versatility makes it a lot like the bed of a teeny industrial truck. Cart stability seems very good, with one exception. I went for a Coho because of online chatter saying that carts with its design are actually the best for stability: the Coho can't flip over coming off a curb or on angles the way many two wheel designs can. This is true! I has exceptional stability on straightaways, and as long as my bike is upright, it'll stay upright on straightaways. When making extremely sharp short turns (L and Z bends at trail entrance points and some crossings) it can list to the side a quite bit though with it's design, even if the bike is fully upright. Not a deal breaker, but something to be careful of. On the plus side again for stability, the wide-stance kickstand is superb if you want to park it briefly to tap a crossing sign or are loading it! My bike also has a dual kickstand, so they stay nice and paused when needed. Overall, I'd say it's an immensly versatile cart that can be easily taken anywhere a bike can, with the bonus is that it can carry pretty much anything within weight limits. Oh last thought: It's good for apartments! I live on the second story, so most e-bikes or cargo bikes are a no-go due to weight and trying to heft them up stairs. This cart is light, so I just carry the cart and my bike down separate and attach them when needed. Nice and simple. Anyway, 5/5 for it!

This trailer is awesome

They have thought through everything in creating this trailer! It's quick connect is such a great idea, the kickstand that can hold up the trailer and the bike is a great option! I also really appreciate the quality of the whole product! Good job Burley for knocking this one out of the park!

Sturdy and easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Made the upgrade from an old Bob Yak. Thrilled with how easily it comes apart / folds up and attaches to the bike. The shock absorber is also a nice upgrade for my pup.

With no way to shorten the attachment yoke and move the cargo area closer to the bike's rear wheel, the distance to the cargo area is a bit excessive and contributes to trailer waggle which can cause very serious bike handling issues. Caution with heavy loads! ... Recommended speed limits: - 20 mph (32 km/h) on smooth, straight roads - 5 mph (8 km/h) when turning or on uneven roads ... So you shouldn't ride over 5mph on dirt or gravel?! Wow.

Burley but loud and prefer the other tire

It’s a noisy trailer with the cotter pin breakdown design but held up great to some “burley” bike packing trail and weight. I wish there was an option to choose the trail specific tire instead of the road tire at the time of purchase since I am only using it for trail. It’s already an expensive trailer and having to buy another wheel off the bat is discouraging.

Great design and lots of

Great design and lots of options to upgrade for usage. The only drawback was the lack of the needed axel to connect to my bike.

I really like this trailer, but there are a couple of issues

I am new to the single track trailer world, so consider that as I offer the following: I am towing this trailer with my Luna X1 Enduro eBike. So the good - It tracks very well on single track (with an exception noted below under "The problematic"), if my pedals clear an obstacle on rough trails, then so does the trailer, the yoke does not hit even on 15" drops, it pulls well and nearly undetectably on even moderately rough, moderately level trails. It holds gear well and in a reasonable quantity. The problematic - Two issues. One, the towing yoke has some elasticity in it which allows the mass in the trailer to roll side-to-side out of frequency with the bike (my eBike is heavy at about 55lbs). The result is that as the bike moves side to side the roll in the trailer is behind the movement of the bike and can pull the bike sideways out of time with the bike's movement, making the steering hard to control while maneuvering in tight conditions. Incidentally, pushing the bike side to side in sync with strong pedaling is not advised with any weight in the trailer. Number Two, the radius you can turn your bike is restricted in tighter switchbacks, as the yoke of the trailer bars against the front of the trailer. When descending switchbacks, once the trailer is barred, the weight in the trailer pushes the bike's rear tire sideways. With 30 lbs in my trailer, I chose to walk several descending switchbacks. So the trailer is great. But you can't put a boat trailer on your 4x4 pickup and expect it to work the same on difficult trails that it would without that trailer. I am going to keep pulling my Burley Coho on the trails where I go.

The problem with this trailer is that Burley had to recall the standard QR skewer that came with it by default thereby rendering the trailer useless to anyone that purchases it not knowing how it attaches to the bike. This trailer will not even attach to many common configurations without custom modification. In my case, I thought I needed the M10x1.0 ballz nuts for a pedal assist Pinarello with the Mahle system when I actually needed an M12 nut (which doesn?t exist). I wouldn?t even bother with Burley support as they don?t seem too interested in supporting this trailer. Other reports have suggested that imbalanced loads can lead to an excessive amount of side loading of the rear end which could cause a loss of control over your bike. The instructions specifically state that the max speed for turning is 5 mph. So they clearly know that cornering at speed with this trailer could lead to problems and the broken QR skewers suggest a general design flaw. Since I will now need to either spend more money on a non-Burley component to modify the accessory to work with my bike I may just return the trailer and scrap the idea of using it off-road altogether rather than get an even more expensive part (the ballz thru axle) for a different bike that would make the trailer much harder to use.

Burley Coho XC Cargo trailer

Love the Burley Coho XC trailer. I use the trailer for MTB trail maintenance and trail building. Trailer works great in the trails carrying all kinds of Tools including chain saws and/or buckets full of rocks. The only reason I give it a 4 star is because I would have preferred to have the choice of ordering a trailer with 3” MTB wheel. Now I have to purchase an additional wheel and hang on to the original road wheel I have no use for. Other then that, great trailer tracks great and follows the bike through twisty single track while being loaded down with tools flawlessly.
