Why We Like The Storm 500-R Headlamp

Black Diamond is enhancing its Storm headlamp lineup with the new R-Series lamps. This particular Storm 500-R Headlamp is a high-lumen and multi-mode lamp that gives us the power to fully illuminate our nights with nine different lighting modes and the potential for 5H of charge time at the highest setting. We really like that the Repreve headband stops that uncomfortable, hair-pulling sensation we often get with cheaper headlamps.

Great features, bad quality

I would love the headlamp with all of its features if it weren't for two extremely annoying issues I've encountered in the past 1 year of usage: 1 - Spotlight failure. I've had to request a replacement because my first headlamp spotlight would sporadically fail only after about 1 week of usage. I narrowed it down to some internal circuitry problem as tapping the bottom of the headlight could trigger the issue. The replacement still has the same issue but it is a lot harder to reproduce and it occurs manageably rarely during everyday use (e.g. cycling) but is nonetheless annoying for such a price tag. 2 - Just today the small plastic which is responsible for keeping the adjusted angle of the lamp cracked, making the direction non-adjustable (since it plops down without resistance). To my knowledge, I haven't subjected the lamp to any extreme forces. Overall would be a very nice, powerful, heavy-duty and feature-packed headlamp if it weren't for the above flaws. I honestly wouldn't recommend it based on my experience.
