The Black Crows Mentis Freebird Ski is choice for the snow conditions common in higher altitudes. Icy summits, rocky bootpacks, and maybe even a bit of powder down lower in the trees are all in store when we're touring with a backcountry ski like the Mentis Freebird. It has an ultralight weight and nimble 80mm waist, as well as a surprisingly straight turn radius for really opening up on aprons full of variable snow. An ultrathin layer of carbon and a titanal binding retention plate amplify the ski's stiffness so we can keep our speed up on the downhill.
