Bought a Medium for our Nissan Frontier - super easy to install, fits perfectly, and looks awesome! As stated by others, the construction and materials are top notch. Maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't had any issues with loading up multiple bikes. Kids bikes go in first starting on the driver's side (w/ the wheels all pointed to the driver's side) and work your way over with additional bikes in increasing size. We carry 4-5 on a regular basis with no issues. Would highly recommend

Nice quality easy install

Got this for my 2021 Tacoma and fits great and was super easy to install (4 straps to run under and through the bottom of the tailgate). I put 2 of our 4 bikes on there and as the picture shows the outside padded area doesn’t quite work with the second bike. This doesn’t effect how the second bike is strapped in or how it sits in the bed just a little bummed it doesn’t fit in there perfectly. Other than that issue the pad it pretty great for our 4 bikes.

Hot Lap Shuttle pad

This pad has some great new features that allow it to work on a wide variety of tailgates. The expanded handle/backup cam opening works with almost every tailgate on the market and the addition of webbing along the top lets you customize it to fit different width tailgates. When loading bikes start from left to right with the smallest bike going first and turning the fork so that the disc rotors are facing out. This allows you to maximize capacity and ensure all bikes are secure.

Nice pad. Lots of adjustable straps to make it fit the tailgate width so the pad lays nice and taught. High quality material that is durable. The pads hold the bikes in place really well. I had no issue fitting 6 mountain bikes on the pad (26" wheels) but I can see how there might be an issue with 29er wheels blocking the next fork slot. The blocks do a good job of keeping the bikes in the spot, no sliding around compared to other pads used by friends.

Unsure

We still need to test it with bikes on, but here's a picture of the Large pad on a Silverado if anyone is looking for reference. The fabric quality is great, but I found it a pain to get on. It's designed to stay on the truck once it is in place. So that might be the biggest draw back for us because we don't want it to live on the truck at all times and it is not quick enough to put on when we are just running up the canyon for a short after-work ride. Seems more suited for hauling bikes on trips. Or just leave it on and pray it doesn't bake or fade in the sun and that it can withstand getting rained on. Or I guess you don't have to strap it on every time you put it on, use it like a blanket with the webbing free to fly around or get creative with knots or something.

It looks like you do not have this pad installed correctly. The zig-zag compression strap should be on top of the tailgate, and those blocks at the top should be lower on the front of the tailgate. With the way you show it, the downtube straps won't reach the bikes. The lower edge should come down 4 or so inches.

Def installed wrong, I too thought maybe this would be the solution to the glaring design flaws but as Zach mentioned then the cinch strap would be out of place and the straps to secure the bike wouldn't be remotely close to the bike frames. Please make a better product. Everyone - DO NOT BUY THIS PAD UNTIL THEY CORRECT THE DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fits the truck great, solid construction

This tailgate pad is super well made, and fits the tailgate of my truck (2018 F150) perfectly. The cinch adjustments for contouring to the curve in the tailgate are awesome and the adjustable flap for the handle/backup camera are exactly where they should be. The design of this pad however is just awful. As another reviewer stated, the deeper grooves on the front of the pad for your fork stanchions are directly in line with the depressions on the back of the pad for the bike's downtube. Every bike must be placed in with the forks turned 90º or greater to fit. If the depressions/bumpers for the fork stanchions were slightly offset, or not as deep, the pad could work, but as it is now, you can fit 4 bikes on the 6 bike shuttle pad. The design should be changed in the future. The smaller size pad should be made to fit 4 bikes maximum, and the largest pad should be built to hold 5 bikes. Material quality and build quality is great and I'm currently debating whether to sell and try to buy the raceface pad, or to modify this one by removing or cutting down the thick foam blocks that force the fork to turn so sharply. It's really a shame because it packs so many awesome features into a pad with a great price. Would not recommend. 100% transparency, I purchased from the backcountry outlet via geartrade. The item was brand new with no signs of use. I got a very steep discount, and even with that, the fit is a disappointment.

Very bad, downright terrible design.

It's like the design team sat in a room and drew up plans and never actually put bikes on this thing, at least not more than one! A typical tailgate pad allows for forks/tires to be slightly turned to the right to let the next bike(s) in the line nest in nicely. The design on this pad has deep slots for the forks which force them and the tire to sit fully rotated to 90 degrees and the tire then COVERS THE SLOT WHERE THE NEXT FORKS SHOULD GO! If you strap the bikes in the straps how it's designed each bike is forced further and further from the pad/tailgate. I used this pad on one trip with 4 bikes and everyone in the group (who all had trucks with other brands of pads) could not believe how terrible this design was! Thankfully BC HAS GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE and heard my complaints and had zero issues offering a return. I will commend them on the quality of the material and stitching on this item, also the very versatile tailgate handle/backup camera opening, they're on to something with that part of the design! I'll keep my eye out for the next version!

Colby, pretty sure I got your returned pad buddy. Like you, the design looks awesome and the construction is amazing. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as intended.

Good quality. Didn't work for my truck

I returned this product before using it

Great looking, high quality pad that should work for most. Ultimately had to return it because it didn't fit the tailgate of my 4th gen Ram 2500(anterior-posterior length of tailgate too great) and because it knocked out about a third of the field of view for my backup camera. I'd suggest Backcountry make a fitment guide for this product.

Nice tailgate pad

Medium

Medium fits great on my 2015 Colorado. The best feature over other pads is the highly adjustable flap for backup camera and tailgate handle, lots of different configurations with Velcro to secure in place. Thick padding and blocking between bikes to keep everything safe and secure. Works great with a few bikes spaced out on pad (see below issue for more bikes). Includes grommets for a cable lock as well. Updated: Like other reviewers have noted, when you try to load 5 bikes, it just flat out doesn’t work. The outer foam blocking causes the front wheel to overturn and inhibit the fork of the next bike in line. I am usually just carrying my bike and sometimes one more, so it gets 3 stars for my use.

What do the sizes Medium and Large mean exactly? Aren’t all tailgates the same?

Hey Ryan, We have different sizes to accommodate different length truck beds, along with an additional bike carry! The M is designed to carry 5 bikes, while the 6 is designed to carry. You can find the size chart above the size selector, it will include truck compatibility.
