Why We Built The Backcountry MTN Air Pant
"Finally, packable wind-resistance for my legs too. And I really appreciate how the material is still ultralight and really breathable." —Gearhead® Expert Sammy
When we reach the summit, we pull on our Backcountry MTN Air Pant for protection against crisp alpine winds that still lets our burning thighs cool down. The elastic waist and oversized, universal fit slide easily over our hiking shorts, and the hems' drawcords let us cinch out gust-blown dirt. Just like the other layers in our Mountain Air Collection, this pant is built with Pertex Quantum Air material that does the most at the lowest weight—optimal breathability, tremendous wind-resistance, and water-shedding prowess. As we make our way back to the trailhead, the light yet burly ripstop panels save our skin from overreaching branches and rough rock scrambles, and the treated fibers keep us dry as the gray clouds roll in and start to spit. Performance aside, the construction's recycled content and PFC-free water-repellent finish keep our conscience clear, letting us focus more on getting out there.

Cool but did not fit me
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Bought size L and they seemed to be too short (like a regular length 32" inseam); too large in the waist; waistband system seemed overly complicated and ineffective (not enough elastic so when cinched down it looks frumpy). Materials and construction were great. Ankle cinches seemed fine. Would have kept if they fit; I just wish the size chart was more accurate, especially considering that this is an in-house brand.

Very lightweight, cool and baggy
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- Medium
Used numerous times backpacking in hot breezy conditions. Extremely comfortable, very lightweight. Baggy around the ankles. Has an elastic drawstring to cinch around the ankles but still too loose and you have a dangling loop of elastic that catches on everything on the trail.

Buying my third pair now
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- M
- Height:
- 5' 9"
- Weight:
- 160
these pants are extremely lightweight and perfect for anything. I have taken them hiking, paddleboarding, boating and use them often when I have to fly. They are great travel pants. One thing that can appear to be a defect but is not, is the bungee cord at the ankle, the joint part can become exposed if you pull the cord to turn the pant into a cinched ankle, but I just put that part back into the tunnel and it all works well. The wind protection on them is superior (bc its Pertex Quantum Air fabric) so you can take these anywhere in almost any season.
