Rassler 2.0 Water Shoe
Designed with whitewater enthusiasts in mind, the Astral Buoyancy Rassler Water Shoe is built to handle the roughest trails and bushwhacks in pursuit of the best creeks and drops out there. With a high friction rubber sole, the Rassler will wrestle with the slickest surfaces to keep you on your feet and will still bite in when you're carrying your boat up dry granite boulders alongside the creek. Drainage ports in the midsole drain water quickly, while TPU reinforcements at the toe and heel keep the shoes intact when dealing with rough terrain.

Best River Shoes
The real deal. I wore these shoes for 2 full seasons class IV+ river guiding. Thrashed them, wore them daily, and they never fell apart. I ended up keeping them for 3 more years after guiding and they still held up to intermittent use. I had two pairs of Astrals before these and they held up pretty well, but not as well as this model. The toe box and zero drop was always comfortable, I could hike in them without issues. Here’s the thing, I always cleaned the sand out and dried them after getting off the river, but did not leave them out in the sun when I was not wearing them. The rubber sole was a life saver on slick rocks and the high top was secure, never came off on swims.

Would be perfect if more foot-shaped.
Overly narrow fit. For such a cool style and balanced geometry, Astral really needs to look at the foot shape of Altra, Lems, Topo Athletic, Vivo and get a bit more ergonomic. I love the design, but the shoe is quite narrow, nocking off a couple stars. I find my TRs are similar, but not as extreme.

Get the Rassler, prefer over Hiyak
2nd pair of Rasslers, first 2.0, can definitively tell the 2.0 was an upgrade. Really like the newer insole and firmer feel. The prior pair lasted a long time 4-5 seasons of fly fishing with a good amount of wet wading, and many hours of casual wear, or while kayaking. Tried a pair of Hiyak between, but for wading or casual wear I much prefer the Rassler firmness, the Hiyak is great for kayaking but not comfy on rough terrain or rocks, the Rassler can handle it all!

Favorite adventure shoe, but wears out fast
I have worn these shoes for three seasons now, and love them. I do a hybrid of rafting and canyoneering for work and am constantly running around on wet rocks, swimming, and shoving my foot ander a thwart. These things do it all. The soles are grippy, my feet are always comfortable and well protected, and I rarely ever get blisters even with a brand new pair. My feet are super wide, so the wide toe box is awesome and gives my lots of stability when rock hopping. However, in three seasons, I am on my fourth pair. The soles hold up fine, but the canvas and mesh materials are not built for the everyday use I put on them. But the warranty is good and I've only had to pay for one pair. Still my favorite water/rock/adventure shoe out there, but I think there is room for improvement on the longevity of materials/seams.

Perfect for whitewater
I had a few shoes for whitewater kayaking in the past. The Rassler is the best i ever used. Monster Grip, perfect cut for sitting in a kayak and lightweight with still a lot of Protection.

Rassler 2.0 is my new BFF
I am obsessed with these. They are the only shoes I hike in anymore. I frequently hike on rocky trails with scrambles and uneven footing. I don't have to worry about slipping because of the soles/treads. I can wear them comfortably for 10+ miles without blisters or hot spots. They are also easy to spray clean and dry quickly. I will be buying another pair soon.

Not the best
They run small and narrow. The glue between the upper and the sole doesn’t seem to do the job for long.

An investment for your feet
Very solid shoe with great support and fit. Sizing runs tight like most Astral products so be prepared to size up when expecting to wear neoprene socks. Sole has amazing grip on wet rocks and hasn’t had any problems with durability. It gets a 4/5 due to only 1 option for tread design which isn’t great on mud. And the material traps water for a while making them one of the smellier items in the gear pile compared to others. These shoes replaced my old Tr1 high tops which were my favorites, but I do feel more sturdy in the Rasslers.

Overpriced but satisfied.
Very comfortable, poor durability. Shoe falling apart after 3 months of use.
