Your beacon is like an insurance policy—you hope you'll never have to use it, but if you do, you'll sure be glad it's there. The Arva Pro W Avalanche beacon is a high-tech transceiver that's got all the features you need to help in an emergency, even though you hope it gets to spend most of its life in the holster. It has an excellent 50m range, and can recognize up to 5 burials, while indicating if there are more. In digital mode, the Pro W has an intuitive, easy-to-read back-lit screen that indicates direction, distance from burial, and number of victims, and gives an audio alarm with a U-turn visual indicator if the searcher is moving away from the transmitting beacon.
Like all high-end beacons, the Pro W performs a self-check when turned on, and has a marking feature that allows the searcher, in case of multiple burials, to locate a signal, mark it, and move on to the second signal without difficulty; it also creates a scrollable list, so the searcher can re-access previously marked signals without difficulty. While probing and digging, the searcher can switch to standby mode, reducing any potential interference to the searcher's beacon, and not worry about secondary slides, because the Pro W will switch back into transmit mode if it senses that movement has stopped, indicating the wearer has been buried.
It also has a secondary frequency, called W Link, that communicates with other W Link-equipped beacons to reduce signal confusion, makes it easier to mark and un-mark burials, and lets the user choose which signal they're going to search for first, considering a scenario in which the closest burial might not be the easiest to reach. The searcher can also switch the Pro W to analog mode, which requires more practice to use but provides a precise, audio-assisted search mode in single-burial situations.
