    Don't be ducking the ropes.

Bust into the backcountry (but remember to follow the ski resort's policies) with The North Face Boys' Boundary Triclimate Jacket. This 3-in-1 pairs a removable insulated liner with a fully taped shell featuring The North Face's reliable HyVent waterproof breathable membrane. Without the Heatseeker liner, the Boundary feels best during the shoulder seasons and winter's warmer weather. With the Heatseeker liner, the Boundary ensures warmth when winter is at its chilliest.

The Boundary also features a fixed hood and a powder skirt for better snow-shredding coverage, and there's an internal hem stabilizer for glove-friendly donning. Hook-and-loop tabs secure the Boundary over ski gloves, and there are multiple pockets for hands and season passes. There's even an internal pocket for smartphones, and a headphone router allows seamless music while riding.

    Great Ski Coat

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium (10/12)

I bought this coat for my 9 y/o and it has been a great ski coat. It kept him warm with just a heavyweight base layer on a couple of -25 ski days this year. We like to buy 3-in-1's for our kids b/c they run warm and often zip-out the liner at lunch but on really cold days they wear the whole system and can stay out all day. The pockets are also large enough to stash extra hand-warmers and snacks.

    Son LOVES this jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

We bought this for our son early in the season, he's been skiing, sledding, playing outside (for hours!), and he keeps coming in saying how "Awesome" his jacket is. For a 10 year old, unsolicited reviews really mean something. I will say that the sizing on this really runs small. He turned 10 in late November, he is a tall skinny guy (70 pounds/ 4'9") and the 10/12 barely fit him. With any sort of winter gear underneath, it would have been too small. We returned the 10/12 ordered up to the 14/16 (which I NEVER would have done). The 14/16 is perfect - A little big now, but not crazy, and I'm banking on 2 seasons given the fit. I wish the hood was insulted, but he always wears a ski hat, so that's not that big of a deal. He does take the system apart for different types of weather, and the overall weather-proofing has held up to the rain, snow, and windy conditions of Vermont & Connecticut. He doesn't come in cold or wet, which means he doesn't come in early. Warm & Dry = Lots of time outside. Glad we spent the money on this one.

    Extremely Happy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

The coat was a great price for the quality we received. My 11 and 12 year old boys both now have this jacket. The size is true to the chart and the warmth is unbeatable. I love the combination of the puffer coat and the outside shell, but they can also be worn separately. We are fully ready for powder time, whether it's negative degrees or bright and sunny! ;)

    big quality little package

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

this jacket is awesome. we just got this a few weeks ago so haven't been able to test it in the powder yet, but it fits awesome and looks cool, just like the adult version. the little guy is pretty pumped on hitting the hill in this one.

    ANOTHER GREAT TNF YOUTH COAT

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

We've been through several TNF Triclimate jackets over the years with four kids. They are always great. You can't beat 3 jackets for the price of 1. We've typically gone with the fleece liner, but my son wanted synthetic insulation this time, so we gave this a try. It fits great and keeps him extra warm.

    Beautiful Coat

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

I agree that you need to size up with this coat. I bought a small (7/8) for my tall/skinny 8-year old son - hoping to get a couple of years wear out of it. I thought it might be a little big since his size 6/7 coat was still fitting from last year. It fits perfectly for this season, but we'll probably have to get another coat next year. If I had it to do over again I would have bought the medium. Other than that it's a really well-made coat and I love the colors. We bought the cosmic blue color and my son loves it. He also loves the inside removable coat.

    Waterproof, warm, and no whining

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

I bought the black version for my 8yo and he loves it. The Boundary has synthetic insulation for the zip in, not the fleece liner that constantly gets wet around the sleeves and the hem. You know they pull their jacket off and there is snow frozen to the cuffs and around the butt. I hope having the thicker/warmer liner will keep me from hearing, "Dad I'm cold" all the time. While we haven't had it in the snow yet, my son did wear it in the driving rain for 4+ hours at a football and he stayed dry and warm the whole time. Shedding snow is easy for most jackets but holding up to a pounding rain is impressive. I'm now in the market for another one for my younger son. Beware, size up. My 8yo wears a medium(10-12) and he's a skinny, but tall kid. I plan on getting a 6 for my again skinny 5yo. But, it seems to me that all outdoor companies run small for kids. A couple of improvement ideas for the good people at TNF, a little thicker material on the elbows and the back hem. I guess my kids are the only ones's who bail off their sled mid hill or try and use their butt as way to slow down on the ski slope.

A little long(er) use update. Whoever approved white accents on a kids coat should be beat in public. I didn't think they would a dirt magnet, boy was I wrong. Still one of if not the best kids coat on the market, but come on North Face who on earth puts white on a kids coat.

    Upset!!

When I bought this coat their was a lifetime warranty. Now I'm trying to exchange because the seams are coming apart on both sleeves and I'm told the policy has changed and I can not exchange!! This is very disappointing and I feel you should honor your policy when coat was purchased!! So upset!!

So handsome in it and it does the job.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My 5 yr old has this coat in a 6. Fits great and true to size. Does everything it claims to do. Warm, versatile, and hip all at the same time. Worth every penny.

      Rain, Snow, Cool, Cold...Clutter-buster!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

PERFECT! I love it so much I bought one for all my boys. I was so tired of a rain jacket, a cool weather jacket, a heavy winter jacket, extra sweatshirts for layering...All hanging on the hall wall. Ugh! But this coat has solved all that. No more heavy puffy jacket. No more rain jacket. No more lighter jacket for fall and spring. Here in northern Missouri, we get a taste of it all, and this jacket fits the bill. Beads rain nicely, looks sharp. Love the hood with the elastic around the crown to form-fit. Oh, and really love the price!

      He loves it!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I bought this for my 6yr. old son. He loves it. I love it. It is very warm and when it starts getting warmer you can use the thinner one. Its great its 3 jackets in one. One for the Fall, Winter and Early Spring. Thanks Back Country

      3 Jackets in one!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My boy loves this jacket. On a 50deg dry day he wears just the inner jacket. +45deg rainy days he wears just the outer shell. And of course snow days both jackets zipped into one. The best part is the inner jacket looks great by itself.

That's a lot of bang for your buck, thanks The North Face!

size XS is for 6 year old boys?

The XS size coincides with the numerical size 6 so it will most likely fit your son! I would recommend comparing the measurements for chest and hips on the size chart to be sure. According to the reviews, this jacket runs small. If your kid is hitting a growth spurt, the size S (7) would perhaps be a better choice.
