Save weight and time on your next tour by mounting up the Surface Reuss Alpine Touring Ski with your favorite touring bindings and getting after it. Surface switched things up by giving the Reuss a fischscale climbing pattern on the base, saving you the hassle of sticking on skins for long, low-angle ascents. You'll still want your mohair buddies for steeper climbs, but the amount of switching you'll have to do will be seriously reduced, because you can also descend smoothly on the Reuss' bases, so you won't have to stick skins on and take them off over and over and over.
As a descender, the Reuss is designed to give you stability and versatility without any big surprises. It's 105mm underfoot, with traditional camber for grip and stability and just enough tip rocker to cruise through soft snow without diving. Surface's mini-cap construction combines a lightweight cap with an edgy section of ABS sidewall underfoot, and the birch and poplar core is light and poppy without being wimpy. The Reuss also boasts underfoot reinforcement sheets for bomber mounts and is built with full-wrap steel edges so you won't find yourself edge-less and SOL if you hit a rock when you're rallying down a peppery backcountry line.
