Why We Built The Stoic Venture Insulated Hoodie

We chose a removable hood for the Stoic Venture Insulated Hoodie to rock this piece under a shell as a midlayer or style it for a night on the town. When the hood is on, it teams up with synthetic insulation to keep us warm on chilly ridges. With the hood removed, we're left with a timeless bomber that can be dressed up or down.

Very nice with single flaw

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Nice, warm jacket. Good looking. Works well for 20-55 degree weather. One flaw: there's no wind blocker fabric behind the front zipper. Very odd, as the chin section has it, but it stops at the neck going down. It's noticeable on cold days and requires a scarf or something underneath. Otherwise, great jacket with had warmer pockets, removable hood, etc.

I bought this as an everyday "dog walking" jacket. It is perfect for my needs. I add layers depending on the temperature. I live in SE Va,, so I'm not using for anything other than neighborhood walks.

Decent Jacket - for the $

I paid about $60 for this coat. At that price it’s a decent jacket. At it’s list price of $110, you may as well spend a bit more and get a good one. This coat is well made, looks great, and fits excellent. It is however made from lower grade materials. My comparison, and the coat I am trying to replace, is an Arcteryx Atom LT hoodie. Mine sadly is no longer presentable after about 10 years of use, and A, changed their fit so significantly (I changed shape as well) that I no longer fit their clothes. For reference I’m 5’7” and about 195 pounds. Very athletic, but as a POC, I have a rump, and big chest - most mountain gear is made for tall white guys or people who look like models - which I am not. This coat is best described as a coffee and dog walk jacket rather than something you’d trust your life to in a mountaineering situation. I wore it on a longish 6 mile hike, on a rainy 50 degree day, through a valley and over a ridge with pretty varied micro climates. I’d say it’s main weakness is breathability. I think as much sweat was trapped inside as water that seeped through the DWR coating - which lasted about 5 min before it stopped beading and started seeping. It’s insulation is also poor quality weight ratio. I ordered a Cotopaxi coat at the same time, and though it didn’t fit, it was clear that though thinner and much lighter, it was warmer. This coat proved good at stopping wind, and did not get too cold even when wet. All in all, I appreciate the coat for it’s value. It’s nice looking. It’s well built. It has nice lining in the pockets to keep your hands warm. It’s windproof and cosy. And at $60 a decent value. A couple of improvements might include a different lining material that breathes better, and possibly another material down the sides or in the pit area that allows for some heat to escape. The hood could use a draw string (though it works surprisingly well) and it needs a coat hook loop (the absence or which is pretty annoying). Again, for $60, I’d recommend it to most, as long as your not looking for true mount gear.
